    Let’s Visit Melody’s Cupcake Shop

Good morning Division 8! Did you go outside on that rainy afternoon yesterday for Nature School? It was not the nicest day for Nature School unless you had good boots for splashing in the puddles. Today’s picture is from Melody. Thank you to her family for sharing this work with us. Look at the fantastic pop-ups that Melody made. It makes me want to jump right into her art and visit her cupcake shop. We will be having our zoom call today so if you can join us, we will see you at 9:30. Today’s book was shared by Ms. Lynka back in May when all of us were still…

    Writing About Your Learning

Today’s collage was made by Gustavo last week. I wonder where he got the pictures to make this collage. Did you try the robot partner drawing challenge yesterday? We tried it in the classroom and found out that it is really difficult to tell a partner how to draw a robot using step by step instructions especially if you have made your robot too complicated. The lego building challenge today should be a little bit easier. Today’s writing activity is to write about your learning. I am hoping that all of you can try to do this writing this week and send it to me. I want to hear from…

    Happy June Everyone!

Thank you to Selina for these great collages. Selina has been working hard to make this amazing art and she is also writing about her art. Great work! I have decided that this is Coding Week. I have planned some activities to do at home or in the classroom which are about coding. Today’s activity combines art, language arts, and math. You will need to use math and art to create a 2-D shape robot and you will be using oral language to communicate your step-by-step instructions to a partner. I can’t wait to see how the robot drawings turn out. Today’s storytime book is called Hidden Figures: The…

    Happy Birthday Grace

On behalf of Division 8, I want to wish Grace a very Happy Birthday. I want to thank the parents who have been e-mailing and uploading art this week. You can expect to see more student art next week. Since it is the last day of art week, here is another story about an artist. The artist’s name is Georgia O’Keefe and the book is called My Name is Georgia  written by Jeanette Winter. In honour of Grace’s birthday, here is a cute video about Owls since Grace loves the Owl Diaries so much.

    The Colours of the Rainbow

Today’s collage was made by Hayley. Look at all of those little pieces of paper that she used to make each colour. It almost looks like a puzzle. I am very impressed by all of the collages that you are sending. I especially like how each one is different. Today’s story is called Sophie’s Masterpiece. It is written by Eileen Spinelli and illustrated by Jane Dyer. Your ‘just for fun’ video is from David Pilkey. In this video, he teaches you how to draw a flip book.

    Zaid Built a Snowman

Today’s fantastic collage is from Zaid. How many snowmen are in this picture? Remember to count all the tiny ones that Zaid cut up for the collage. Many of you have offered to have your art shared on the blog. You will see them over the next week. I picked a storytime book today about the artist Jackson Pollock. The book is called Action Jackson. It was written by Jan Greenberg and Sandra Jordan and illustrated by Robert Andrew Parker. Maybe if you ask very nicely on a nice day, someone in your family might let you try a little splatter painting of your own outside. If you have time…

    Art Week Creation

The blog post picture today is brought to you by Noah. He wanted to share his collage with you. I will share Zaid’s collage tomorrow. If you want to share your art work this week, let me know and I will post it on the blog. Today, your nature school, art, and writing are all mixed together. Hopefully, the sun will come out this afternoon and you will be able to draw an amazing landscape. For storytime, you can listen to The Garden of Abdul Gasazi, written and illustrated by Allan Van Allsburg. Take a look at the landscapes that Allan Van Allsburg draws in this book. I think that…

    Let’s Look at Lila’s Creation

I had so much fun with the other theme weeks that I thought that I would make this week, Art Week. There is an art activity every day this week. Language Arts, Nature School, and Themes are all connected to art as well. Each day, you will be asked to do some writing about your art. You only need to write a few sentences each day about your art unless you want to write more. Since it is art week, I thought that you might like this book named The Scraps Book: Notes from a Colorful Life. This book is written and illustrated by Lois Ehlert. It is about collage…

What Can You Make with a Cedar Tree?

In themes today, you are going to learn about the cedar tree. I want you to learn about this tree during maker week because cedar has been used to make so many different things. In the part of the world where we live, indigenous people have found ways to use cedar to make clothing, household items, and canoes. Cedar is also important for ceremonial and spiritual practices.
