    Last Day of School

Dear Division 8, Today is our last day of the school year. Usually, it would be quite a different type of last day but this has been a very strange year. We will be having our last zoom meeting today at 1:30 if you are able to join us. We are going to wear our zoom masks for the meeting so if you have not had time to make one, you might want to make one this morning. I am hoping that each of you are able to do some ‘happy hunting’ this summer so that you can find many ways to have a great summer. I am…

    Happy Hunting

Hello Division 8, We have our last two days of school this week and I have a few more activities for you to do. If you have not already started, today you can work on making a mask. You can use it for our last zoom call tomorrow or just for fun. In your writing today, you are going to draw and write about things that make you happy and how to find some of those things this summer. We read about this in our last zoom call and I found another book about this. Today’s book is called Happy Right Now and it is written by Julie Berry…

    Summer Solstice

Hello Division 8, Tomorrow is the first day of summer. Have you noticed how late the sun is setting now? This is the time of year when it is hard to get to sleep at night because it can still be light out when you go to bed. Here is a story called Sun Dog about a dog named Juno who lives up North where it stays light even longer in the summer. Look at the illustrations in this book. Do you think that you could make a piece of art like the ones in the book?

    Life Story Writing

Theia and Raphael used printmaking techniques to make their money including bills and coins. By using styrofoam trays and carved stamps, they were able to make many copies of their bills and coins. If you have not already finished writing all of the sections of your Life Story, I am hoping that you can do that today or tomorrow. I have sent you an e-mail to let you know if you have any sections left to finish. Since we are thinking about Life Stories, I decided to pick a biography for our story today. The story isĀ  The Watcher: Jane Goodall’s Life with Chimps by Jeanette Winter. Jeanette Winter is…

    What is This?

Did you go for your Nature Walk yesterday? We went for a walk around the school and into the gold forest. We found some new creatures. Noah found that if he put his clipboard on the ground in the upper field lots of little tiny red bugs would jump onto his page. Today, I learned that those bugs are called clover mites. Roman discovered this interesting creature in the gold forest? Does anyone recognize it? I wonder what it is. I was going to put a P.E. lesson on the weekly schedule for today but it is so beautiful outside that I am going to leave it up to you…

More Money and More Chapters of the Class Story

Today’ money was created by Noah, Roman, and Braeden. What would you buy with an ‘Infinity’ bill? A few more chapters have been added to the story since the last time that it was posted on the blog. If you want to read the latest chapters of the story, you can find them here. It looks like you might have some sunshine for your nature walk today. I wonder what kinds of creatures you will find on your walk. Today’s story is about one of those creatures, the dragonfly. The book is called Are You A Dragonfly?. It is written by Judy Allen and illustrated by Tudor Humphries. Enjoy…

    Happy Birthday Mateo!

Division 8 would like to wish a big Happy Birthday to Mateo. We hope that you have a great day. Our last birthday of the school year needs a birthday story so here is Moira’s Birthday written by Robert Munsch and illustrated by Micheal Martchenko. Mateo definitely wouldn’t be able to invite the whole school to his house today for a party like Moira does in the book but we hope that he will find other fun ways to celebrate his day.

    Money and Dominoes

Good Morning! Our first group of bills are from Elissa, Gustavo, Melody, and Hayley. Some students had time to make both sides of their bill. Hayley used the back of her bill to show herself picking up litter which is what she would like to be known for someday. Instead of a story today, I have a short video of an incredible domino creation. Imagine how much patience and perseverance it took to set up these dominoes. Have a great weekend. If you are joining us for the zoom call, we will see you at 9:30.

    Landscape Art

Today’s artists are Theia and Raphael. They both made landscape paintings. Tomorrow, I will post pictures of the money that you made. I am still hoping to hear from many of you about your learning this term. If you have not finished your learning self-assessment and your Creativity Core Competency, it would be great if you could find the time to do that by the end of the week. I found another story about money for today. This story is about saving your money for something special. It is called A Chair For My Mother by Vera B. Williams.

    Show Me the Money

Did you get out for a walk for nature school yesterday? We went into the gold forest and played in the rain. We found out that it can be really challenging to climb a wet, mossy rock while wearing rainboots. We also found this amazing stump covered in fungus. I think that it is a type of polypore fungus that people like to call a turkey tail fungus. Today, you are going to finish up some writing if you have not already finished it. I am hoping that you can finish your self-assessmentĀ  for your report card and your core competency for creativity. We worked on these in the classroom…
