I hope that you had a good first day of Maker Week. I am having lots of fun trying to find videos and stories to fit this theme. I found a video for today that shows a lego machine that someone designed and built. The machine folds paper airplanes. Take a look at the video to see the machine and how it works. Today’s story is about an artist named Alexander Calder. Calder is famous for his mobiles and his sculptures. I included some of his art in the picture with this post. He also loved to make things out of wire. He made an entire circus show out of…

    Maker Week

It’s Maker Week! You are all so creative that I know you are going to make some amazing things this week. Please send me pictures and I will post them on the blog each day so everyone can see your creations. Our stories and videos this week are also maker themed. For storytime, you can listen to Have Fun, Molly Lou Lemon written by Patty Lovell and illustrated by David Catrow. In the story, Molly Lemon learns how great it can be to use your creativity to make your own fun. When I listened to the story, I had a connection to Crispin: The Pig Who Had It All which…

    So Silly!

Thanks to all of the students who sent me their silly selfie portraits. Here they are! Do you recognize these faces? Even though it was a silly week, you definitely did a lot of work. Well done, Division 8. I am so proud of you. We can’t have silly week without reading Mr. Silly by Roger Hargreaves. We started the week with a video of silly animal selfies and we are going to end the week with silly animal selfies. These silly animal selfies were recorded in Canada. How many of these animals can you identify?

    Class Story So Far

In our class meeting yesterday, you voted to decide whether we should share each chapter of the class story as it is written or if we should save it and make it a surprise. The result of the vote was that ten students thought that the class should read each chapter as it is written and four students thought that it should be a surprise. Since more students wanted to read each chapter as it is written, I have placed a link to the story on the Language Arts page of this blog. If you voted to keep it a surprise, you don’t have to read it now. You could…

    Meet Some Silly Super Heroes

Here is some of the work that you did for the silly superhero activity this week. We heard about many of the creative ideas at our class meeting. These three silly super heroes are called Candy Girl, Flower Girl, and Sir Fat Burger. Hayley says that Candy Girl’s power is to turn anyone into candy, Naseeb created Flower Girl who can turn anything into a flower, and Zaid created ‘Sir Fat Burger’ who has the silly super power to make bad guys eat burgers and get fat. Tomorrow, I will post the silly self portraits that you did so if you have not sent me yours yet you can do…

    Time to Twist Your Tongue

I am so impressed with how silly you are being this week. I have seen some great silly selfie portraits, silly yoga poses, and silly super heroes. Today, you are going to try some silly walking and some silly talking. For storytime, you can listen to this Dr. Seuss book, Oh Say Can You Say, that is filled with tongue twisters. Dr. Seuss was definitely good at being silly. Finally, if you want to look at a video today. This video is about how silly string was invented. I wonder if you have ever played with silly string. If you are joining us for the class meeting today, see you…

I hope that you had fun creating your silly super powers yesterday and creating silly yoga poses. Don’t forget to upload or send me your pictures. Today, during Nature School Ms. Fischer and I want to you go out and enjoy nature in any way that you like. Pretend that you are in the gold forest having free time. What will you do? Next week is going to be maker week so it will be helpful if you have some recycling or things from around your…

    Silly Week

Happy Silly Week! This week we are going to have fun being silly. Silly art, silly writing, silly math, and silly fitness. Things can seem very serious right now in the world but it is still fun to be silly. Your writing and math activities may take more than one day this week so don’t try to finish things in one day if they are taking longer. Since you are going to making your own silly ‘selfie’ portrait today, you might enjoy this video about animal selfies. For storytime, I am going to suggest a silly book every day this week. At the end of the week, we will vote…

Of course, we all wish that we could say Happy Birthday to Alexa in person today but for now we are wishing her a big Happy Birthday from our homes. To our Division 8 moms and grandmothers, we wish you a very Happy Mother’s Day. For the past two months, you have had to be mom and teacher so THANK YOU and have a great weekend. Today’s video shows a mother…

    Time to Play Pig

We tried this new math game in our carpet time meeting yesterday and now it is time for you to try it. If you can’t find any dice at home, you can use this website that has Virtual dice.  I decided to stick with the the pig theme for storytime today so you might want to listen to Jon Scieszka read his book The True Story of the Three Little Pigs. I really enjoy watching authors read their own books. I couldn’t find any good videos about pigs so so I picked a video just for fun.  If you have time, you can watch this video for the band OK…
