For term 3 the themes I was hoping to cover are continuing with the development of skills in writing and reading,  geometry, time, water cycle, measurement, ADST, and financial literacy. I will be trying my best to centre future activities around these themes. Report cards are still required to be written in June. Any work submitted through Freshgrade will help me to assess your child more accurately in order to write an authentic report. Thank you for your help and cooperation through these uncertain times!

Activity 13 Razkids Recorded Reading

• Watch the video on how to record yourself reading on Razkids

• Login into Razkids and follow the steps
• Begin recording yourself reading the assigned text (takes about 10-15min)
• Complete the two activities after reading then you are finished

Activity 14

• Play Shapes Slides and Ladder
• Print off the game board
• Find a dice and two loose parts so you and a partner can play
• Practice familiarizing yourself with the names of different shapes
• Enjoy the game!

From time to time I am going to share our learning through the class blog to allow us to celebrate all of the wonderful work that each of you are doing. A huge part of our classroom is sharing our learning with each other and being proud of what we create as learners, readers, writers, artists, scientists, engineers, mathematicians etc. No images or names of students will be posted on the blog (they will be cropped or blurred out) for privacy reasons. I am so proud to be your teacher!

Hello Families of Division 10,

I hope those of you who were able to see the parade on Thursday enjoyed it and I hope everyone was able to have a restful long weekend. I look forward to reading the letters that you all wrote back to me. Below is the drawing I made from Think Outside the Box Thursday. I hope you like it!

Activity 11 I am Peace

• Please read “I am Peace” on Epic!
• After, talk about some ways that you can remain peaceful, grounded and mindful. It is important that we can recognize our feelings and use tools and strategies to be mindful.
• How are you feeling today? What are some ways that you can stay calm? How do you get to the green zone? Do you have any breathing or calm down techniques to share?
• Write down your ideas or share it in any form that you like and post to Freshgrade

Activity 12 Decomposing

• Choose a number: 12, 32, 50, 99, 125
• What different ways can you decompose it? Decompose means break into parts (for example: 20 can be decomposed into 10 & 10, or 10 & 7 & 3 and many other ways)
• How will you show your thinking (you can use loose parts, drawings, numbers, etc.)?
• Post it to Freshgrade when you are ready

Today at 10am Suncrest Staff are going to be doing a social distancing driving parade in the Suncrest Neighbourhood!   We are going to hit the road at 10 am starting at the school and following the map / directions provided. If you are available, please situate yourself somewhere on the route and look for the line of cars with signs all over saying how much we miss you all.

Below is the route we will be driving through. Please make sure you are with an adult and practicing social distancing. Look for these signs made by me! Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow and saying hello to you from the car!

• We will head East on Rumble,
• South down McKay,
• West on Boxer and through the alley way to Patterson turning South,
• West on Marine Drive to Joffre,
• North on Joffre across Rumble and up to Dubois St.,
• East on Dubois to Mandy Avenue,
• North on Mandy Avenue to Imperial,
• East on Imperial to Mckay,
• South on McKay to Irmin,
• West on Irmin to Roseberry,
• South on Roseberry to Rumble,
• West on Rumble back to the School

Activity 9 Write a Letter to Me

• Read my letter (attached to this activity) and discuss with your families some of the things you noticed
• Make a brain storm web with your family and write down on the outside of the web a list of things you want to respond with in your own letter. This will help you generate ideas prior to writing, similar to what we discuss as a class prior to beginning to write
• Write a letter to back to me, here are some things to think about when writing:
  • Start your letter with Dear Ms. Diep
  • Write sentences with a capital letter at the beginning (names have capital letters), use punctuation at the end of your sentence, spaces in between words and have full and complete ideas
  • Answer some of the questions I asked in my letter
  • Ask Ms. Diep a question or two
  • Sign your name
• Feel free to use the template below or your own paper 
• When you are finished please post it to Freshgrade

Activity 10 Think Outside the Box Thursday

• Take a look at the picture below
• Print or copy down what you see on your own paper
• Finish the picture by using your imagination and being creative
• Make it colourful. It is not a donut. What did you create?
• Remember everyone’s will look different and that is the exciting part
• Post what you created on Fresh Grade

Activity 7 The Best Part of Me

• Please watch the video of the read aloud of the book The Best Part of Me by Wendy Ewald
• When you have finished listening to the story, please discuss some of the things you notice about the book
• After your discussion think about some of your favourite parts of you and share them with someone
• Pick your favourite thing about yourself and take a photo of it like in the book
• Write a description about why you like that part of yourself (your writing can rhyme, it can use lots of describing words called adjectives, it can make people see a picture in their heads which is called imagery)
• When you are done please post your work

Activity 8 Backyard Nature Scavenger Hunt

• Since the sun is out and the weather has been great, let's get outside!
• Find the different things on the scavenger hunt sheet in your backyard
• Take a photo of some of the things you found and post a picture

Activity 5 Hand Washing Experiment

During these uncertain times it is really important to wash our hands to prevent the spread of germs. For this activity students will experiment to see why washing our hands is so important.

Materials needed:

•  Water
• Pepper
• Hand soap

Directions:

• Put pepper and water in a shallow bowl and have your child dip their finger in it
• Discuss what they notice when they do this
• In another small bowl have your child dip their finger in some soap then place that finger back into the water/pepper solution
• Discuss what happens when they do this
• Take this time to discuss important times of the day when we need to wash our hands
• *Optional* Research what ingredients are in the soap and which one of the ingredients helps to remove the germs
• Please either record a video, take a photo, or write about the experiment that your child conducted

Activity 6 Spreading Positivity in the Community

Materials:

• Paint or Chalk
• Rock found outside

Directions:

• Go outside around the house and look for a rock that you like. When you have found a rock that you like (preferably not too big) bring it inside
• Gather your paint and paintbrushes
• Think about a positive message you would like to write or draw on the rock
• When you are ready paint your idea onto the rock
• *Optional* if you and your family go for walks you could bring the rock and leave it somewhere for somebody else to find and hopefully that will make their day a little bit better
• If you don't have paint, you can use chalk to write on the rock or use the chalk to write/draw a positive message outside your house on the sidewalk (please make sure your family is with you when you are outside)
• Get creative and have fun!

Activity 3 Gratitude Poster/Sign

Please make a sign to share a message of gratitude for health care workers and/or essential service workers. You may choose to hang this on your window or find another place to display it. The purpose of this learning task is to share our thanks and show our appreciation for those who are keeping our community safe and healthy!

Task:

•  With parents or siblings, brainstorm who is working in our community right now and what jobs are considered essential services
• Write down a list of these jobs
• Use any supplies you have at home (paper, crayons, pencils, markers, paint, etc.) to create a sign or poster 
• Write words of gratitude/appreciation/thanks directed at health care or essential services workers
• Draw colourful pictures and images to go with your writing
• Remind your child to make their writing big and bold if they want people to see it from the window

Activity 4 Shape Hunt

Task:

• Brainstorm with your child the different types of shapes that there are (circle, square, triangle, cube, sphere, etc.)
•  Talk about 2D shapes (shape that is flat) and 3D shapes (3 dimensional and can move through space)
• Go around the house and find any shapes that you can see
• Discuss if it is a 2D shape or 3D shape. Think about what makes them different (number of sides, numbers of corners, etc.)
• Take a picture of some of the shapes in your house

Hello Families of Division 10,

Here are some tips for uploading your child's work onto Freshgrade:

• Please use either the Student Freshgrade website or app (it will be the green colour one)
• Once you have the page opened, it should prompt you for an access code which was emailed out to families last week
• If you need a new access code please let me know and I can send it out again
• After signing in, it should show you the activity and have an upload button to submit assignments
• Most activities should be an upload of a photo of your child's work, further down the road I may ask for a recording of your child demonstrating certain skills
• The submission for a video is similar to the submission of a photo
• The Parent Freshgrade app (purple one) only allows for families to view their child's portfolio and make a comment, so please ensure you have the student one
• If you have any other questions please let me know
