Class Story So Far
In our class meeting yesterday, you voted to decide whether we should share each chapter of the class story as it is written or if we should save it and make it a surprise. The result of the vote was that ten students thought that the class should read each chapter as it is written and four students thought that it should be a surprise. Since more students wanted to read each chapter as it is written, I have placed a link to the story on the Language Arts page of this blog. If you voted to keep it a surprise, you don’t have to read it now. You could…

Meet Some Silly Super Heroes
Here is some of the work that you did for the silly superhero activity this week. We heard about many of the creative ideas at our class meeting. These three silly super heroes are called Candy Girl, Flower Girl, and Sir Fat Burger. Hayley says that Candy Girl’s power is to turn anyone into candy, Naseeb created Flower Girl who can turn anything into a flower, and Zaid created ‘Sir Fat Burger’ who has the silly super power to make bad guys eat burgers and get fat. Tomorrow, I will post the silly self portraits that you did so if you have not sent me yours yet you can do…

Time to Twist Your Tongue
I am so impressed with how silly you are being this week. I have seen some great silly selfie portraits, silly yoga poses, and silly super heroes. Today, you are going to try some silly walking and some silly talking. For storytime, you can listen to this Dr. Seuss book, Oh Say Can You Say, that is filled with tongue twisters. Dr. Seuss was definitely good at being silly. Finally, if you want to look at a video today. This video is about how silly string was invented. I wonder if you have ever played with silly string. If you are joining us for the class meeting today, see you…

Next Week is Maker Week
I hope that you had fun creating your silly super powers yesterday and creating silly yoga poses. Don’t forget to upload or send me your pictures. Today, during Nature School Ms. Fischer and I want to you go out and enjoy nature in any way that you like. Pretend that you are in the gold forest having free time. What will you do? Find sticks and build something. Run around. Explore nature. It is up to you. Don’t forget to save your recycling for one more week. Next week is going to be maker week so it will be helpful if you have some recycling or things from around your…

Silly Week
Happy Silly Week! This week we are going to have fun being silly. Silly art, silly writing, silly math, and silly fitness. Things can seem very serious right now in the world but it is still fun to be silly. Your writing and math activities may take more than one day this week so don’t try to finish things in one day if they are taking longer. Since you are going to making your own silly ‘selfie’ portrait today, you might enjoy this video about animal selfies. For storytime, I am going to suggest a silly book every day this week. At the end of the week, we will vote…

Happy Birthday Alexa!
Let’s start by wishing Alexa a big Happy Birthday because tomorrow is her birthday. In honour of Alexa’s birthday, we have a storytime book called Ten Rules of the Birthday Wish by Beth Ferry and illustrated by Tom Lichtenstein. Of course, we all wish that we could say Happy Birthday to Alexa in person today but for now we are wishing her a big Happy Birthday from our homes. To our Division 8 moms and grandmothers, we wish you a very Happy Mother’s Day. For the past two months, you have had to be mom and teacher so THANK YOU and have a great weekend. Today’s video shows a mother…

Time to Play Pig
We tried this new math game in our carpet time meeting yesterday and now it is time for you to try it. If you can’t find any dice at home, you can use this website that has Virtual dice. I decided to stick with the the pig theme for storytime today so you might want to listen to Jon Scieszka read his book The True Story of the Three Little Pigs. I really enjoy watching authors read their own books. I couldn’t find any good videos about pigs so so I picked a video just for fun. If you have time, you can watch this video for the band OK…

Microscope Art
Today’s images come from Rafe and Theia’s new microscope. They used it to look at an onion skin at magnifications of 750x and 1250x and at a slide of a pine stem at 750x and 1250X. Rafe particularly liked the last one that looks like abstract art. Yesterday, you were asked to use a camera for your Nature School Scavenger Hunt. Did any of your photos look like abstract art? Did you take any pictures very close up? If you have a favourite, send it to me to be posted on the blog. After you work on your measure and jump activity in math and physical education today, you can…

Still Tied!
Once upon a time, there was a boy who had a baby spider plant and he wanted to give it a name. He had three names that he liked but he couldn’t decide which one was his favourite. The names were: Sid, Barney, and Spivey. He decided to ask his classmates to vote for their favourite name during their class meeting on Friday. After the votes were counted at the class meeting, there were six votes for Sid, one vote for Barney, and six votes for Spivey. The vote was tied between Sid and Spivey. The students didn’t know what to do so Noah suggested that Ms. McKenna could send…

It’s Time to Start Our Class Story
At carpet time on Friday, Division 8 voted on the story elements for our class story. The main character will be a princess, the setting will be a castle, and the object will be a magic wand. Each student will write one page and make one illustration for the story before it is passed on to the next student. Stay tuned for more instructions. Today is a celebration for Star Wars fans because the date, May the Fourth, sounds like one of the movie’s famous lines “May the force be with you.” If you are a Star Wars fan you might enjoy this video. Look at how this artist uses…
