Check the Forecast
Today’s collage is from Melody. Isn’t it great how they are all so different? I hope that you had fun making some money yesterday. It is interesting to look closely at the different bills to see how many pictures and designs are on each of them. Since we are planning to head out for nature school on a rainy day, here is a book about weather for storytime. It is called Fly Guy Presents Weather by Tedd Arnold. Maybe you can check the weather and decide what would be the best time to go for a walk today.

It’s Money Week!
Thank you to Elissa for volunteering to have her wonderful collage on the blog today. This week is Money Week! Today, you are going to make money in art, write about money in language arts, and learn about coins in math. I want to thank all of you who showed us some of the money that you have at home in our last zoom meeting. For storytime today, you can listen to Alexander, Who Used To Be Rich Last Sunday, written by Judith Viorst and illustrated by Ray Cruz.

How to Code a Sandcastle
Today’s collage artist is Theia. One of my favourite things about the Division 8 collages is that everyone used different materials that they found around their homes. Notice, how Theia used an old C.D. for her collage. Since we have been thinking about coding this week, I thought that you might like to hear this story called How to Code a Sandcastle written by Josh Funk and illustrated by Sara Palacios. Have a great weekend!

What Will Your Family Robot Do Today?
We have another fantastic collage today. This time our artist is Raphael. Tomorrow, it will be Theia. I flipped a coin and Raphael got to go first. Today, you are going to try to code a human at home. Find a family member who would like to be a robot today. Please remind your robot that they should only respond to very specific commands and they can only say “please repeat” or “do not understand”. Try not to get too frustrated, it is a really difficult job to code a robot. Some of you found out how hard it is to code a human when you tried to get me…

Let’s Visit Melody’s Cupcake Shop
Good morning Division 8! Did you go outside on that rainy afternoon yesterday for Nature School? It was not the nicest day for Nature School unless you had good boots for splashing in the puddles. Today’s picture is from Melody. Thank you to her family for sharing this work with us. Look at the fantastic pop-ups that Melody made. It makes me want to jump right into her art and visit her cupcake shop. We will be having our zoom call today so if you can join us, we will see you at 9:30. Today’s book was shared by Ms. Lynka back in May when all of us were still…

Writing About Your Learning
Today’s collage was made by Gustavo last week. I wonder where he got the pictures to make this collage. Did you try the robot partner drawing challenge yesterday? We tried it in the classroom and found out that it is really difficult to tell a partner how to draw a robot using step by step instructions especially if you have made your robot too complicated. The lego building challenge today should be a little bit easier. Today’s writing activity is to write about your learning. I am hoping that all of you can try to do this writing this week and send it to me. I want to hear from…

Happy June Everyone!
Thank you to Selina for these great collages. Selina has been working hard to make this amazing art and she is also writing about her art. Great work! I have decided that this is Coding Week. I have planned some activities to do at home or in the classroom which are about coding. Today’s activity combines art, language arts, and math. You will need to use math and art to create a 2-D shape robot and you will be using oral language to communicate your step-by-step instructions to a partner. I can’t wait to see how the robot drawings turn out. Today’s storytime book is called Hidden Figures: The…
