Friday June 12

Happy Friday!

Great to see so many of you during yesterday’s class meeting. Today will be a catch-up day after you work on your core competency PowerPoint. Here are today’s learning opportunities:

Continue working on your core competency PowerPoint. You’ll be working on 2 new slides about your personal and cultural identity. Like yesterday, I have not uploaded anymore video tutorials for this assignment. You have a choice for what you want to make your slides about. You can either talk about your personal and cultural identity or you can choose to talk about social awareness and responsibility. You can pick your last 2 slides to be about ONE of those bold links.

If you are done, read your favourite book! Go outside for some physical activity… make some art! The choice is yours. You can also look at your science project and make some edits to make your work even better. Again, the choice is yours! Click here for some extension questions.

Thursday June 11

Hello everybody! Thank you for constantly checking the class blog. I appreciate your organization and your dedication to e-Learning! Here are your learning opportunities of the day.

We have our regular class meeting at 2:00pm today! Hope to see all of you there!

We will continue working on our core competency PowerPoint. We have 2 more “lessons” of this and will be finished likely by this Friday. Thank you for your patience and for pouring your genuine thoughts into this assignment. I appreciate reading all that you have said. I haven’t made comments, but I have certainly read many of your slides. We will be looking into personal responsibilities today. I will have not updated the YouTube playlist because by now, you should have a good enough grasp of what to do. Click here to directly go to the core competency page about personal responsibility. Remember to click on profiles once you’ve clicked the link.

For math, we will continue on Math IXL.

  • Both grades will be working on rotational symmetry. Remember to click on recommendations and look for the yellow star on the right to find lessons that I’ve recommended.
  • Both grades have the same video tutorial: https://youtu.be/blQjglPb1jw

Continue using Duolingo to practice your French!

Wednesday June 10

Hello everybody, here are your learning opportunities for the day.

For math, we will continue with Math IXL along with a short activity.

  • Grade 4: P20: Lines of symmetry
  • Grade 5: X1: Lines of symmetry
  • Both grades have the same video tutorial: https://youtu.be/59s_CQjTD6w

Look around your home to identify some items with lines of symmetry. What item has the most lines of symmetry? You don’t have to do any work on Teams for math, but feel free to share your observations with the class.

For science, continue working on your science PowerPoint. My suggestion is to work on the plant life and adaptations slide. Ideally, if you’re on the plant life + adaptations or the animal life + adaptations slide, you are on a very good pace!

As always, continue practicing the life skill of typing! You can use ATRT or any program that your parents are okay with.

Tuesday June 9

I am at Suncrest today so I won’t be able to answer answers really quickly. Please continue to post questions in the QUESTIONS only chat channel on Teams.

Here are the learning opportunities today:

We are going to start off with something special for someone special (I don’t want to make it obvious in case she checks the class blog) Full assignment details are on Teams. It’s fairly simple. All you have to do is draw a picture and write one sentence to go with it.

For math, we will continue on Math IXL.

  • Grade 4’s: Q9: You will be learning about volume.
    • Key point: Volume is the amount of space inside a shape. For example, calculating the amount of water in a cup is calculating its volume.
    • No video tutorial
  • Grade 5’s: Z9: Surface area.
    • Key point: Break your 3D shape into 2D (flat) nets.
      • How many faces does the 3D shape have?
      • Measure the surface area of each face
      • Add the surface area of all the faces together
    • Video tutorial: https://youtu.be/vl1uMOYFyf4

For ELA, you will be learning about the pensee poem. You will write two poems. Remember to read through the rules carefully! They are pretty particular, so review them twice before you begin. Full assignment details on Teams.

Monday June 8

Hello everybody!

I am at Suncrest today so I won’t be able to answer answers really quickly. Please continue to post questions in the QUESTIONS only chat channel on Teams.

Here are the learning opportunities today:

We are starting off with student voice for your progress reports. You will be typing up your thoughts of the year, much like the one you did for term 1 and 2. Please find the assignment on Teams. Full effort and detail please!

For math, we will continue on Math IXL.

  • Grade 4’s: Q8
    • Key point: Area is the space inside a shape
    • Key point: Perimeter is the space around a shape
    • No video tutorial
  • Grade 5’s: Z8

Continue to develop your French on Duolingo!

Friday June 4

Here are your learning opportunities for the day!

Class meeting at 2:00PM today. I have some news to share. We are also going to brainstorm a list of things that we did each term. Please come with memories of things that we did this term in class. This will help you on your “progress report snippet” assignment that I will be giving to you next Monday. (It was originally supposed to be assigned today but I decided that we should brainstorm together during this meeting first)

We are continuing with our core competency PowerPoint. Today, we’ll be working on slides 9 and 10 which focus on critical thinking. Please find full details as well as the tutorial video playlist of Teams.

Please use the rest of the day to work on French, typing, or your science project. Remember that you science project is now a “do at your own pace” assignment. It will be due next week.

Thursday June 4

I will be unavailable for most of the day because of meetings. I will check Teams and my email once in a while, but I won’t be able to respond very quickly. Please use the “QUESTIONS ONLY” chat channel on Teams to ask questions. Please help each other out by answering your peers’ questions.

Here are the opportunities for the day:

Our class meeting for today has been moved to Friday at 2:00PM.

For math, continue working on math IXL.

  • Grade 4’s: Lesson Q7. Click here for your video lesson.
  • Grade 5’s: Lesson Z7. Click here for your video lesson.

For your core competency PowerPoint, please work on slides 7 and 8 where we will focus on creative thinking. Again, be honest and think of your strengths and areas for improvement. Find assignment details as well as the tutorial video links on Teams.

We will continue with French on Duolingo.

Wednesday June 3

I will be able to answer your questions quickly today!

Here are your learning opportunities for the day!

For math, continue on Math IXL. Grade 4’s will work on lesson Q6. Grade 4’s do not have a video tutorial as the lesson is somewhat straightforward. Grade 5’s will work on lesson Z6. Grade 5’s can click here for your video tutorial.

For science, you will be introduced to our project. Please… PLEASE watch the video tutorial. There’s a LOT of information in that video. Remember that you have the choice of either doing a PowerPoint presentation, or a form of your choice (pamphlet, poster?). Make sure that you review the criteria and rubric on Teams. This is a WORK AT YOUR OWN PACE assignment. I suggest working on 1-2 slides per day, it is ultimately up to you. The assignment will be due at the end of next week… but I’m not firm about the date yet.

As always, continue strengthening your typing on ATRT.

Tuesday June 2

No class meeting today. Our next class meeting will take place this Thursday at 2:00pm.

Like yesterday, I will be teaching at Suncrest so ask your questions on the “Questions Only” chat channel and I’ll try my best to respond quickly.

Here are the learning opportunities for today:

For writing, you will be learning about rhyme schemes. Afterwards, you’ll be writing a limerick poem. Limericks are funny and have an AABBA rhyming scheme. You’ll learn about this when you find the assignment on Teams. Make sure to watch the tutorial video(s)!

For math, continue on Math IXL. Grade 4’s are working on lesson Q5. Grade 5’s are working on lesson Z5. Both grades don’t have a video tutorial so click on “learn with an example” if you need it. Remember that area is the amount of space inside a shape. Grade 5’sdraw your work out if you need to. These questions that you’ll work on are multi-step ones, so take time to think and take time for a break if you need it.
