Thursday April 30

Class meeting at 2:00PM. Please join us!

It was great to connect with even more of you yesterday. I continue to encourage you to check this blog and your email daily for the most up-to-date information! Thank you to those who have checked these two places daily. If only I can send physical pencils, erasers, and other prizes through email…..

Here are today’s learning opportunities:

For ELA, you will be writing a Cinquain poem. I’ve attached 2 tutorials on Teams to support your learning. One video will talk to you about the form of a Cinquain poem. The other video will teach you how to properly format your poem.

For math, you will continue working on Math IXL. No additional mini-project today. Your maps are due today, so please work on that too if you have not yet finished. Grade 4’s do not have a video tutorial. Grade 5’s have a video tutorial on Teams.

We have a class meeting at 2:00PM.

Please continue practicing your French! It’s been great to hear how you all have found your unique way of practicing this language.

Wednesday April 29

Hi all, we’ve got a full day today. First off, it was great to check in with some of you yesterday. It’s so nice to see how you have all transitioned to a new type of learning in such little time!

Here’s our schedule for today:

For ELA, you will be making inferences after reading a poem. This can be tricky, but I’ve uploaded a lesson to go along with this lesson. Please take time to watch the video and pause when I ask you to so that you work at a proper pace.

For Math, you will find one new Math IXL Lesson. Grade 5’s have a tutorial on Teams. Grade 4’s do not have a tutorial on Teams.

Please continue your typing! I can’t track or see your growth in typing, but if we do return to school, I’m really hoping we’ve improved!

For social studies, we are going to look at deforestation, the forestry industry, and our relationship with this renewable natural resource.

I will be meeting with 7 of you today, so if it isn’t a habit already, please check your email for your meeting time!

See you on teams!

Tuesday April 28

Our class meeting today is cancelled. However, I will be meeting with a bunch of you today either in small groups or individually.

STUDENTS: Please check your email (#######@edu.burnabyschools.ca) as I have emailed you with information of when I will be meeting with you! Click email login at the top to go to your email.

Here are the learning opportunities for today:

For math, I have assigned one new lesson on Math IXL. There is a video tutorial on MS Teams and you can find this tutorial on the assignments tab. Once you are done watching the lesson, you can click TURN-IN (even though there isn’t anything for you to actually turn in).

For ELA, you will be writing a Bio Poem. Please review the video in the assignment tab for more instructions on what you need to do.

For Science, you will be doing some work on the tropical rainforest biome. Some of you have already learned a bit about biomes, but we will be doing some more in-depth work about biomes soon.

For music, you have three forms to complete. You can find the links to these forms on Teams. Please go through them, and make sure to click TURN-IN once you are finished all three forms.

Questions? Talk to me on the chat or email me.

Week of April 27 to May 1

By the end of this week, we’ll be in May! Hopefully lots of sunshine and flowers in this coming month!

I will be meeting with students either 1-on-1 or in small groups. If you haven’t already suggested to me times that work for you, please do so on Teams.

Here’s the schedule for this week. Please note that our class meeting today is cancelled. Our meeting on Thursday at 2:00 will go as planned.

Friday April 24

Hello again! It was great to see many of you during yesterday’s class meeting. We will continue to hold regular meetings on Tuesday at 10:30am and on Thursday at 2:00pm.

Important – before 12:00 noon today, there will be an assignment called Meeting Schedule. It’s not really an assignment. Instead, it’s just going to ask you to check in with your parents to see when would be a good time for you to have your one-to-one check-in with me. These check-ins will take place next week, so please make sure that once you’ve signed up for a time that you also note it down somewhere. Your parents are welcome to join our one-to-one conversations next week.

Here’s today’s schedule:

For Current Events and Journal Writing, you will be reading and responding to an article about how got cleaner during Covid-19.

For art, you will be thinking from the heart and will be creating a simple, but honest piece of work.

Please continue to type using ATRT or through a website approved by your parent.

Please also continue practicing your French by using Duolingo to practice your everyday basic conversational phrases.

Monday is a Pro-D Day. Though I will not be posting a schedule on Monday, feel free to work on any work that you feel should be done. However, most of your time on Monday should be spent relaxing. Enjoy the weekend! Read some books, help your parents make something!

See you on Teams!

Thursday April 23

Hello everyone,

We have a class meeting at 2:00pm today. To join, check Teams at around 1:50 and you will see an invitation button that simply says “Join Meeting”. Please remember to join with your microphone muted.

Here’s today’s schedule:

For ELA, you will continue learning about 3 poetic devices. We are almost ready to begin writing our own poetry!

For Math, you will have your first mini-project of the term. This mini-project will be done on paper so I would suggest you to print the rubric out and have it beside you if you have a printer. You will be making a mini map using the lines and shapes that you’ve learned about so far. This project is due next Thursday. I will be posting a video explanation sometime today.

At 2:00, we have our class meeting. See you then!

For French, continue working on Duolingo to build your foundation of French words. Instructions can be found here.

Please remember to continue filling out your P.H.E activity log!

Take care and see you on Teams!

Wednesday April 22

Thank you for a successful class meeting. For those who missed it, no problem! We will have another one this Thursday (tomorrow) at 2:00PM.

I want to remind students and parents that if you need to contact me, I have provided students with a temporary phone number that they can reach me at. It is shared only on Teams for privacy reasons.

Here’s today’s schedule. Make sure to stay active and to reach out to myself and one another if you have any questions.

Remember to update your physical activity for P.H.E.!

For math: 2 new lessons on Math IXL. These assignments will gear you for a different type of math activity on Thursday. No additional math work on Teams. Again, tutorials for Math IXL can be found here.

For ELA, you will be reading a poem today. Keeping in mind of the 5 poetic devices we have learned about earlier, you will be asked to identify some of them in the poem.

In Social Studies, you will be looking at mining and minerals as a non-renewable resource. You will analyze and reflect about the benefits and drawbacks that come with mining.

Please continue working on typing. You may use All The Right Type, or a typing program that you are more familiar with. Again, remember to use those home row keys and know that all this practice is only going to help you be better at whatever you do in the future. (Who knew as a teacher, I would have to type this much!)

Questions? Email me, let me know on Teams, or call me if it’s more urgent 🙂 – Mr.Cheung

Tuesday April 21

Monday April 20

It’s a new week! I hope that you are all refreshed. I am a bit behind in reviewing your assignments so thank you for your patience. I want to remind you all to make sure that you turn in your work by clicking the turn in button on the assignment screen. There have been quite a few assignments that were not turned in properly.

Today, we will be using a new program which means another set of usernames to remember. I recognize how it can be a hassle to track all your different logins, but here’s a form that you can print out to help you organize all this information! Click here if you are interested in this sheet. Click print on the top-right corner.

This new program is Math IXL. It will provide you with practice as well as extra lessons to help you understand Geometry. Your assignments will include work on Math IXL and sometimes on Teams. We will have a math mini project in the next coming weeks so please make sure you take the time needed to learn. The goal is never to randomly pick answers for the sake of going fast.

  • Your username can be found here. Email me if you have problems.
  • Your password is the same as the one you use to log into Teams and your email.
  • Click here for a written tutorial. Click here for a video tutorial on how to use Math IXL.

Here is today’s schedule:

Math: Learn how to access Math IXL and do the 2 recommended lessons. No other assignment on Teams.

ELA Reading: You will read a short story with lots of visuals. You are then to visualize and make some inferences. More detail can be found on Teams –> Assignments.

We are gearing up for our class meeting tomorrow. Please gather any questions that you may have about learning online. Please also be prepared to share the art that you’ve done, or be prepared to share the idea that you have for art.

For P.H.E., you will be tracking the amount of physical activity you are getting each day. Details and the working document is on our assignments tab. I will a live tutorial (instructions on Student Communication Channel) at 2:00pm for those who are interested.

For music, please check Ms. Fletcher’s blog. You can find her updates as well as resources when you explore the different tabs on the menu bar of her website.

Have a great day! As always, I will see you on Teams.
