Friday May 29

Hello everybody,

Thanks for your patience thus far. I have been busy restructuring the classroom as some of you will be coming back to school. Parents: if your child is returning to school and I did not call you yesterday, I will likely be giving you a call today.

Today will be a catch-up day: catch up on assignments that you have not yet finished that are due next week.

Your big task of the day is to continue working on your core competency reflection PowerPoint. The assignment has been updated. Please watch the tutorial video on Teams (slides 3+4). You will be reflecting about how you communicate. Be sure to provide me with some examples.

If you are done, visit the resources page and continue to develop your skills in Math (explore IXL or Khan), French (Duolingo), and typing (ATRT). Visit Ms. Fletcher’s blog and see what she has posted!

Optional: Paper Airplane Day was on May 6 (3 days ago!). Use materials at home and explore different folds and types of airplanes! If you do this, try to record it and send it to me. Myself and your classmates would love to see it! Click here to try some paper airplane activities!

Thursday May 28

Hello everybody. Please see our learning opportunities of the day below.

We have a class meeting today at 2:00pm. See you on Teams!

For math, both grades have 1 lesson on Math IXL. Both lessons are about finding the area of squares and rectangles. Remember that area means the amount of space inside the shape, whereas perimimeter is the distance around the shape.

  • Grade 4’s, click here for your video lesson. Click here for a bit more of a “challenge”.
  • Grade 5’s, click here for your video lesson.

There has been a change in our weekly schedule. We will not be working on social studies this week. We may continue it next week.

Instead, we will begin working on our final core competency update for our report cards. You’ll be developing a PowerPoint presentation which will be referred to on your report card. We will be using the PowerPoint to show what you are able to do. Please find the instructions on Teams.

  • You have been assigned two slides today. The first being your title page, and the second being a slide that captures your thoughts of this year.

Please watch the tutorial videos and ask me questions if you have questions.

Wednesday May 27

Hi everyone, please see below the learning opportunities of the day:

For science, please find your assignment on Teams. You will be deciding a biome to focus your mini project on. This activity will help you plan for your project. Please do not submit the assignment as it will be updated next week.

For math, you will be exploring the term perimeter. A perimeter is the distance around a shape. Both grades have lessons on Math IXL. Please click here and here for video tutorials.

Continue to practice your French on Duolingo and your Typing on ATRT. If you’d like, you can also check out Prodigy. Find yesterday’s post or hit resources on the top bar to find out how to set Prodigy up.

Tuesday May 26

Hi everybody,

Please find your learning opportunities of the day below.

Unfortunately, our class meeting today has been cancelled. Our next meeting will be on Thursday at 2:00.

For math, please finish up your math mini project as it is due today. Ask me questions through Teams or by email. If you are finished the project, you have some self-guided math time on either Math IXL, Khan Academy, or Prodigy. Click here and scroll down for a tutorial on how to setup Prodigy.

For ELA, you will be writing 2 free verse poems today, using yesterday’s poems as inspiration. One poem will be a happy, positive one and the other will allow you express some sadder thoughts. Please make sure that you’ve completed yesterday’s ELA assignment before starting this one.

See you on Teams!

Monday May 25

Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend. I had a great time checking in with most of you last week. If you haven’t checked in with me yet, you will be hearing from me soon.

Here are today’s learning opportunities:

For math, you will have today and tomorrow to finish up your mini project. Thank you to those who have emailed me your assignment. If you are already finished the project, you have some self-guided math time. I’ve set up a PRODIGY teacher account. Click here to sign up (click on sign up on the TOP RIGHT) – but make sure to enter our class code, which is A872A3.  If you already have an account, you can learn how to merge your personal account with our class account by clicking here.

For ELA, you will be reading 2 poems. The two poems are very different and you will learn why! Full assignment details are on Teams. This assignment will prepare you for two poems that you will be writing tomorrow.

As always, continue strengthening your French and typing on Duolingo and ATRT.

See you on Teams.

Friday May 22

Happy Friday! Today is once again, full of small group check-ins. It might take a while for me to respond to your questions as I am busy talking to others!

Today will be a catch up day. Thank you for working hard on your math, science, and social studies assignments. You’ll be getting another mini project next week (I think it’ll be a science one).

Here are our learning opportunities today:

For math, continue working on your mini project. Make sure that you take a picture of it and have it sent to me through email. You can also upload it onto the Teams assignment page if that works.

For ELA/journal writing, please find your assignment on Teams. You’ll be writing a funny story.

For art, play an instrument! Check out Ms. Fletcher’s blog for new updates. Here’s a suggestion. Use whatever materials you have and make some dot art! Click here to see some fine examples! Use felts, crayons, or whatever materials you have. Make a kind message to be posted for our front line essential workers! You do not have to hand this in, but feel free to upload it onto our art gallery on Teams.

Have a wonderful day!

Thursday May 21

Today is a busy day full of small group class meetings! This means that I will see and speak with many of you, but it does mean that I won’t respond to emails as quick.

Here are today’s learning opportunities:

Class meeting at 2:00 today. There will be an activity that we will be trying out! Once again, it probably works best if you are on a laptop, but a different device won’t stop you from being an audience member in our activity.

In math, continue at your own pace. Go ahead and continue working on your mini project if you are not yet finished. if you are finished, explore different topics on Khan Academy or Math IXL. Challenge yourself by moving up a grade level!

In social studies, you will be looking at food resources. Please carefully read the instructions on Teams as not reading the instructions will likely make the assignment more confusing than it really is. You will look at your lunch/dinner and question what types of resources you are eating.

Continue to develop or maintain your typing and French skills!

Wednesday May 20

Hi all,

Please check your email to find your small group check-in confirmation. I look forward to seeing some of you today!

Please see below for today’s learning opportunities.

For math, please continue working on your mini-project. Remember, make your work nicer than mine and always strive for more than the minimum. It is due next Tuesday so you have plenty of time to add detail (visually, and mathematically). I look forward to seeing creative designs where you embed your shapes and lines in ways that are not obvious to me!

For ELA and science, you will be reading about the desert biome. This assignment will also talk about animal adaptations and will prepare you for our mini science project that will be coming next week!

As always, continue your typing on ATRT or another typing program of your choice. Tomorrow’s class meeting activity might involve a bit of a… typing race…

Because I will be meeting with some of you today, I may not be able to respond to your questions immediately. Please email me if you have questions.

Tuesday May 19

Hello everyone. I hope you enjoyed your long long weekend. Here are our learning opportunity for the day! Looking forward to seeing many of during our class meeting at 10:30!

For math, we will begin our mini project. You will be designing the front of a house while keeping geometric shapes and lines in mind. You will find full assignment details on Teams. This is one assignment where you will need to do it OFFLINE, meaning in order to hand it in, you will have to take a picture of it and either email it to me, or upload it straight onto Teams. This project is not due until next week! Please take your time and put your best effort in it!

For ELA, you will be doing a little bit of research about Tanka poems before you write one. Continue to use your descriptive words and imagery to enable your readers (me!) to visualize your poems.

IMPORTANT: Thank you for filling out the form on Teams about scheduling our small group check-ins. I will be going through them tomorrow and will be emailing you today by 3:00pm to confirm your time! Please check your email before signing off for the day.

See you on Teams!
