09/22/22 – ELA Writing – Stage 1: DESIGNING A PRODUCT

This term, we will investigate persuasive writing with a twist. We are going to explore advertisements and commercials.

To begin: Please watch the following advertisements. Notice the differences.

Did you notice any advertisement techniques that made you feel sad? Enthusiastic? In the coming weeks, we will investigate more about these techniques.

In the meantime, it’s time to begin brainstorming and designing your own product. Use the following document to guide your design process.

Criteria:

  • Come up with a fun name for your product
  • You will eventually make your product out of cardboard and real life materials. Your product must be smaller than the size of a library return bin.
  • Your design must have at least 5 features.

Please see the picture below for an example of a Test Taking Pencil.

09/21/22 – ELA Reading – Of of Those GOOD Days…

Your job today is to…

  • Come up with a “good” day
    • Some samples are… (feel free to pick one of these)
      • Fresh laundry day
      • The weather forecast is wrong in a good way day
      • School’s closed because of snow day
  • Type up one paragraph (see criteria below) on portal.office.com – you will need to create your own document as we don’t have a class MS Teams group setup yet.

09/13/22 – ELA Writing – Letter to Self

First assignment of the year! Please write a 3 paragraph letter to yourself. This letter will be returned to you at the end of the school year. It’ll be fun and probably cringey to read.

Please remember to…

  • Set up your page properly.
  • Title (Letter to Self) capitalized
  • Write on the correct orientation on your lined sheet of paper.
  • Focus on capitals and punctuation
  • ALL OF THIS determines what our mornings look like to start our days at 9:00-9:20.

See the picture below for what each paragraph should be about:
