Les couleurs

Bonjour parents!

For the last week or so we have been learning about colours in French in Kindergarten!

Here is the link to a song in French we have learned:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zduapTwsSwA

In the second verse, I changed the word ‘marron’ for ‘brun’ (they both mean brown but the word brun is more common).

The lyrics are:

(sorry I can’t get accents to work)

A great way to practice colours in French is pointing to various colours in the environment: signs, clothes, household objects, in nature etc and asking for the same of the colour in French.

In the next couple weeks your child should be able to identify all the colours in French!

September Update

September 2019

It’s hard to believe we are already into the third week of September! The students are slowly adjusting to the new routine, schedule, people and environment, and they will continue to adjust in the coming weeks  Feel free to come and talk to us if you have any concerns (after school is best). Big Merci to Michele for putting together the Class Contact List!

Library will be every Wednesday, last week was our first visit! Please return the books every Wednesday so your child can choose a new book from the library.

Gym will be on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.  The students wear their ‘inside shoes’ in the gym so for that reason we are asking for appropriate shoes that have good traction.

Shoes

A reminder to please not send your child to school with laces they cannot tie.  We change our shoes several times per day and you can imagine how much time it takes for the teachers to tie multiple students shoes!

Late Procedures

The outside classroom door will open every day after the first bell at 8:50AM and then it will be propped open with a door stop until the second bell at 8:55AM.  If the classroom door is closed, it means the second bell has gone and you will need to bring your child to the office and they will get a late slip and sign in with the secretary and come through the school to the inside classroom door.  We still ask that you say good-bye to your child at the door of the classroom and don’t come in as it disturbs our learning (and they can hang their backpack and coat themselves!) Thank you for your cooperation with this!

Dossiers:

We bought some special clear plastic folders that will serve as Home <–> School Communication bags.  We will be asking the students to put it in the designated basket each morning after they come in.  Please encourage their independence at home by asking them to get it out of their backpack and put it in a designated spot in your home each day.  If you have any signed permission forms or would like to send us a note etc, please put it in this folder.  If you are sending money to school for a Field Trip or Popcorn Day etc, please continue to put it in a labeled envelope with your child’s name and my name and Div.16 and then put that envelope in the special plastic folder.  This may seem like an unnecessary step, but it is difficult impossible to keep track of 20 students, money and permission forms.  Thank you for your understanding.  These bags will be called their “dossiers” in French.

Snack and Lunch:

Please note that the school does not provide spoons or forks for student’s lunch.  Please pack one in your child’s lunch bag.

Toys:

A friendly reminder to not send toys to school as we have lots of toys to play with in the classroom and items brought to school can be easily damaged or misplaced.  It is a big distraction in the classroom.  We suggest to make it a rule that toys have to stay in the car.

Letter of the week:

On Mondays, I am asking students to bring in an object that begins with the Letter of the Week.  We are starting on MONDAY SEPT 30th with the letter “A”.

Here is a list for the next month:

Monday Sept 30th – Send an object that begins with the Letter A

Monday Oct 7th – Send an object that begins with the Letter B

TUESDAY Oct. 15th – Send an object that begins with the Letter C

Monday Oct. 21st – Send an object that begins with the Letter D

Monday Oct. 28th – Send an object that begina with the Letter E

If you cannot find an object, a drawing or computer print out is great too.  Google can help – type in ‘words that start with F in French’.  Put these items/print out in your child’s dossier.  Please also label the objects, usually I can figure out what they are but sometimes I am stumped! If you need ideas or clarification, come see me 🙂  We will be making a list every MONDAY with these words! Please remind your child what is going in their backpack each week as I don’t check each child’s backpack to see if they brought an object.

Thank you very much for your support and cooperation.  Our year is off to a great start!  Please see us or email us if you have any questions 🙂

Kindergarten Reminders

Cher parents,

We have completed our gradual transition! Next week, the students will attend class with the rest of the school!

A few reminders and notes:

Inside/Outside Shoes – Inside shoes need to be appropriate for playing in the gym. Outside shoes need to be appropriate for playing outside. Open toed shoes or sandals don’t work as students get wood chips and dirt in their shoes

Backpacks: Need to be large enough to fit their dossiers and library books (starting next week)

Dossiers: Those plastic folders that came home on Tuesday are their “back and forth” communication folders. Essentially, you check them daily for any school communication and then they are sent back to school, every morning. If you need to communicate with us, email or notes in the dossier is best 🙂 Please ensure they come back to school everyday. Thank you to those of you that have done so. If any money is sent in, please put it in their DOSSIER, LABELLED with their name.

Popcorn Days: We typically do not participate in the first popcorn day. The students are still learning how to eat snack at school and introducing another element can be confusing which is why we did not communicate it 🙂 If you did send in money, your child did receive popcorn. For FUTURE popcorn days, please send money in DOSSIER, labelled with their name. We had several students hand in money on my desk with no name and two students who lost their dollar. It makes for an upsetting morning for the children. Popcorn days are organized by the PAC and they are a fundraiser. You can also choose to send your own popcorn on popcorn days or not participate as well.

Snacks and Lunch: over the weekend, please explain to your child the difference between a snack and lunch. We have done lots of practice these past two days as students wanted to eat their fried rice or mac and cheese at 10am 😉 We also encourage that any treats are eaten at the end of their lunch so if you can help us reinforce that, it is greatly appreciated. We get asked often for ideas for snack and lunch. Here are some ideas: Healthy_and_nut_free_snacks

Labels: Ensure to label with a sharpie or school labels (Oliver’s Labels, Mabel labels) shoes, water bottles, snack bags, umbrellas, jackets. These items get left behind so often it helps having a name or initials on it. 🙂
