About Mme. Marando

I am a French Immersion Kindergarten teacher and absolutely love teaching! I am constantly thinking about new ideas to try with my students or search for interesting and new approaches. I love my students and believe in working with the students to engage, inspire and collaborate! I strive to create a classroom environment that is a home away from home. I have my graduate degree in early childhood education, focusing on inquiry-based, student-centered learning through play and hands on activities

I am of Italian heritage and have strong connections to my culture and family whom I have to thank for being where I am today. I live in Coquitlam with my husband and 3 daughters, Alessia, Chiara and Giulia.

Fun facts:

– I speak French, Italian and a working knowledge of Spanish.

– I lived in Italy when I was younger and attended school there

– I have taught in Cuba and Italy

– I love to sing and used to perform for wedding ceremonies and various talent shows when I was young 😉

Play is the highest form of research – Albert Einstein

I have a play based philosophy. All our learning is centered around hands on experiences. Through play, we explore core kindergarten concepts and themes, while learning French!

Since the new curriculum vision for student learning is based on inquiry-based teaching, there will be many opportunities in my class for students to engage in critical thinking strategies, questioning and exploration. Students will be given the opportunity to explore topics that interest and engage them. I also allow time for free exploration of materials and nature. I believe in creating an atmosphere that is comforting, nurturing and engaging. I believe that this will create the best environment to learn in.

Merci,

Mme. Marando
