Lunch containers

Cher parents,

As you know, the lunch time is supervised by intermediate students so teachers can eat their lunches.

The monitors have been complaining that the thermoses are too tight that they are unable to open them. So just a kind reminder to gently tighten the thermoses so that your child will be able to open it themselves  😊

Sand Toys

Bonjour Parents!

We have a large sand table located just outside classroom and it has been emptied and filled with brand new sand!

Before we open it for students to play and explore we were hoping to have all the sand toys washed before we put them back in with the fresh sand.

Please respond to the poll below if you would be willing to bring home the sand toys on Tuesday and wash them? They can be sent back whenever 🙂

First responder will be selected!

Laundry Helper

Update!

Thank you to the immediate response we received! We now have enough parents to get us through to March! Yippee!

Pinnies will be sent home the Friday (Thursday for Pro-d) and returned the Monday (Tuesdays if holiday Monday)

October 11th – Snezana (sending home tomorrow, thank you for offering to go first!)

November 1st – Mary Esu

December 6th- Saniya  Alam

January 31st- Lori Berndt

February 28th- Vicky Lei

March 13 – Mme. Marando

Thank you for helping keep the kids smelling clean and safe on the playgrounds 💕

…………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Salut,

We are now more than a month into Kindergarten and the students are adjusting to routines and expectations in the classroom! They have even begun learning some basic rFrench phrases!

The students wear yellow vests (pinnies) for recess and lunch. After a month of use, these pinnies are starting to smell! In the past, I would take them home over the weekend to wash however with the job share, that option doesn’t work as we would not be able to return them. Last year, we sent the pinnies home with each child at the end of the month but found they did not all return the Monday.

So, we are looking for a laundry helper! Ideally 5 parents that could sign up to take a load home each month so that you are only responsible for one load all year. We typically phase out pinnies by April.  Alternatively, if you have another solution, we’d love to hear it.

Please fill in the poll below,

Merci!

Volunteers for the Pumpkin Patch

Bonjour Parents,

Thank you so much to all who volunteered to come on our 1st field trip to the Pumpkin Patch!

We can accommodate 4 parent volunteers on the bus and their admission has been factored into the cost of the trip.  The four parents that have been randomly selected are:

  • Elisa
  • Georgie
  • Kaleah
  • Eva

If you were not selected, you are still welcome to join us at the Patch! You will need to drive and meet us there and pay your own admission.

Here is a list of other parents who have volunteered and perhaps you can arrange a carpool:

  • Carina
  • Mythica
  • Alicia
  • Ryan
  • Ivan

A handout will be going home tomorrow with more information about the Field Trip! Please let us know if you have any questions 🙂

Welcome our student teacher, Mme. Jenny

Printing Practice!

Bonjour Parents,

As you know, we started our Lettre de la Semaine this week with the letter ‘A’.

On Monday we discuss and make a list of vocab and on Tuesday we practice printing the letter in upper and lower case.

This is a life skill that we will practicing throughout the year but some students would really benefit from extra practice at home.  I am sending home their green printing duo-tangs this week to show you what your child was able to do in 30 + minutes of printing time in class.

We have a long discussion about using a pencil and erasing our mistakes and trying again! Mistakes are an important part of learning and printing properly takes practice J We also focus on printing inside the lines and correct letter formation for both upper and lower case letters.  Starting at this age will hopefully eliminate bad habits and begin a lifetime of legible printing!

PLEASE DO NOT GO AHEAD IN THE BOOK AND COMPLETE OTHER LETTERS.

If your child needs to continue practicing the Letter of the Week please print extra sheets off the internet, see Mme. Mauro for extra practice or buy a printing workbook (available at many Dollar stores).  Feel free to practice other letters at home with your child, but

DO NOT USE THE GREEN DUO-TANG TO PRACTICE.

I am sending home the printing book to give you some insight into your child’s current abilities and how you can help them at home.

PLEASE SEND BACK THE PRINTING BOOK BY FRIDAY 🙂

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me chiara.mauro@burnabyschools.ca
