UPDATE April 6th- Hello everyone, just a reminder to check Microsoft Teams for all of your class work this week. This is linked through your Office 365 email and will be best way to communicate, ask questions, and collaborate during this time. Some classes as you may have seen are already up and running, but some have not been fully setup as of yet. As a staff at Burnaby Mountain, all of your classroom teacher will be contacting you BY THE END OF THE WEEK. I hate to use caps for this, but it needs to made clear. As Friday is a holiday, we will also make sure everything is out to you by Thursday. This will be a slow start everyone, so please be patient and know that we are all in this together (yes with the voice of Zac Efron). Look forward to touching base with all of you this week.

February 4th and 6th (Block 3), February 3rd and 5th (Block 8)- Essay Edit Days (Full draft) – Able to be edited by me (Mr. Murray) prior to submission.

Peer editing block (3 & 3)-February 7th (Block 8), February 10th (Block 3) (only peer edits available).

February 11th (Block 8), February 12th (Block 3)- FIRM DEADLINE- HAND IN PRINTED COPY BY THE TIME THE BELL RINGS FOR THE START OF CLASS OR IT IS LATE. This is meant as a practice for post secondary and should be taken seriously. If you are concerned about it being late, then hand it in early. I will be here late (4pm) on the 11th in order to accept them.

**I will still grant extensions for essay IF you let me know over 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE WITH A LEGITIMATE REASON (I did not work for the past month is not a legitimate reason).

February 12th and 14th (Block 3) February 11th and 13th (Block 8)- We will be conduction Poetry in Voice practice sessions in order to be comfortable with the presentation format and ability for success.

February 18th and 20th (Block 8), February 19th and 21st (Block 3)- Poetry in Voice presentation- Be prompt we have to get through both classes in 2 days – no exceptions!

UPDATE- January 16th/January 17th – Block 3/8- Poetry and Music assignment portion 1 is due during the break i.e. Handed in by the end of January 24th  (quick rubric summary, literary devices and thematic analysis of both the poem and song). Along with that you must complete the thesis for your comparative analysis essay on the song and poem (rubric the one I handed out to you). Here is the basic assignment for that essay:

Complete a comparative analysis on the question:

Explore the viability of both your poem and your song choice as a piece of literature.

UPDATE OCTOBER 29th (Block 3)- For both today’s block and Thursday the 31st we will be looking into the understanding of literary devices in Guy de Maupassant’s, The Necklace. Please try and find as many as you can on the first page, if you can prove you found more than 25 you get candy on Halloween. Once you have completed the first page, proclaim which device is NOT on the first page. You will then try to disprove your groups choice.

For your silent reading books, please complete a 6 -10 sentence paragraph on the following prompt:

Elaborate and examine the use of setting in a your novel/ book etc.

UPDATE October 15th (Block 8)- Complete the questions 1-8 (as numbered on your sheet) for next class to hand in. We explored question number 9 in class, so we will be completing #10 as an in class paragraph. Please choose a specific social issue with some backing research prior to class. This will be due at the end of class on Thursday. Best of luck.

September 27th (Block 3) – Make sure to hand in your FINISHED AND PRINTED paragraphs at the beginning of class Tuesday October 1st. Refer to the rubric handed out in class for assessment run down.

(Block 8) – As I was not there this week we will be extending the deadline in order to create the best possible paragraphs. Please bring COMPLETED DRAFTS on Monday September 30th for peer editing (and Murray editing) purposes.

September 25th (Block 3) – We will be peer editing your selections so please make sure to bring a draft to class.

September 24th (Block 8) – I am away today, but please continue with the following assignment:

Describe your skills/qualifications that would contribute to your success in this program (the program that you decided to apply for either now or in the future). This should be 6 – 10 complex sentences in length (a full paragraph, please no 3 page essays…).

Utilize the Rule of 3 (that we went over in class) along with precise and concise word choice. Once you have completed a draft please share your paragraph with another classmate and peer edit. Make sure to be constructive about what needs to be in relation to language and content. Everyone is in the same boat, so please be respectful to the process.
