April is Poetry Month! On Thursday lots of South Slope Classes went to David Gray Park to read the poems we each had put in our pockets to each other – We called it Poetry in the Park. Have a look at the awesome video that Ms Shuster created to celebrate our Poem in the Pocket Day!

Daily 5 – Word Work!
We have continued building our reading ‘stamina’ over the last few weeks!! We are now up to 7 minutes of sustained, quiet reading! This week, we began the Work Work part of our Daily 5 Literacy sessions.
At one Word Work station Kindergartens practiced matching upper and lower case letters and at another station children practiced writing their classmates names and words from around our classroom. Of course, we also practiced building our reading stamina too!!

D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything & Read) & Pajama Day!
On Monday we rolled out of bed and came to school in our Pajamas! We brought along our favourite stuffed animals and had a super comfy day at school! In the afternoon, we joined everyone else in the school and read books in the hallways.

Daily 5 – Our Literacy & Early Reading Program
This week we started to introduce our Daily 5 Literacy Activities. The Kindergartens were introduced to “Reading to Self.” We learned what that looks like and what the children and teachers should be doing.
We began to build our reading stamina. So far we are reading for 4 minutes!
