Daily Schedule Cards – For Home Learning

Here are some printable cards (found online) that can be used to create a visual schedule/routine/plan for your child’s day.
You and your child may enjoy creating your plan for the day together, and then ‘checking’ off (flipping upside down or taking down) the activities your child has finished to feel a sense of accomplishment.

Visual Schedule (Home Daily Living)
Visual Schedule (Daily Living 2)
Visual Schedule (Eating)
Visual Schedule (Learning 1)
Visual Schedule (Learning)

Another FREE schedule option can be found on Teachers Pay Teachers:  Free Daily Schedule (you just need to sign up – which is also, free)

Don’t have access to a printer?  You can make your own using anything you have at home (post it notes, recipe cards, old magazines and felt pens, a tablet using the Notes app)

Please remember:  you know your child best, and you know if a list or small pictures or a combination would work best.  In the classroom, these types of cards are used as a visual support to create independence.  We talk a lot about “flexibility” in our day plan, sometimes certain things take longer than expected so other activities can be moved to tomorrow or later.  Help your child by being responsive and providing times for brain breaks throughout the day.  Colour code cards to show the difference between traditional learning activities with daily life activities.  Have fun with it!

Below,  is a picture of Ms Shuster’s sample schedule for the day!!

Terry Fox Run 2018

Last week we had our annual Terry Fox Run. We learned about Terry, practiced our running and helped collect money to continue Terry’s Marathon of Hope.
Our run day was stunningly beautiful. The whole school participated in a warm-up and then headed out for our run. Several members of the Burnaby Fire Department joined us to run for Terry.

Alice in Wonderland! It’s Showtime!!!

The last few weeks have been super busy as we’ve been preparing for our school musical – Alice in Wonderland!! The children were sooo excited to sing their songs and show you their fancy footwork!!  We hope you enjoyed the show!  This is a memory your children will treasure for the rest of their lives.  We are so very lucky to have such a fantastic music teacher at our school!!  Here is a little video of our class during their times “on stage”.   The opening number, our Caucus Race and the Finale!

Enjoy!

Snow & School – What to do if it snows!

As winter weather approaches, there is occasionally the chance it will snow.  You may wonder if the school will be open or not.  Typically it will be!

If Burnaby closes the schools they will post it on the front page of the district website by about 6:30am.   Click here:  Burnaby School District Website

Alternatively,

The most reliable way to learn of school closures is to listen for updates on the following radio stations: CBC 690 AM;
CBC Radio One 88.1 FM; CKWX 1130 AM; CKNW 980 AM; Fairchild 1470 AM; or Fairchild 96.1 FM.

PLEASE….do not call the school.  Thanks so much!
