The BC Summer Reading Club is Online!  The summer reading program usually available through the public library will be online this summer.  Please go to this link, BC Summer Reading Club website , to sign up and learn more about the program.  It started yesterday, so let’s go!

To celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day on Sunday, June 21st,  we will be sharing facts and music from the Canadian Indigenous Peoples:

  • Since 1996, National Indigenous Peoples Day has been held on June 21, the summer solstice and the longest day of the year.
  • According to Statistics Canada, there are over 60 Indigenous languages in Canada.
  • In the 2016 census by Statistics Canada, over 1.6 million people in Canada identified as Indigenous, making up 4.9 per cent of the national population
  • The Jerry Cans create music inspired by their hometown of Iqaluit, Nunavut. With their unique mix of indie rock and throat singing, The Jerry Cans are a distinctly northern, one-of-a-kind group. The band perform many of their songs in Inuktitut and are passionate about preserving the language even as the north and their home community of Iqaluit evolve. They are committed to representing northerners and to challenging common misperceptions they have encountered about life in the Arctic; their music evokes the contemporary north and the spirited people that  reside there. #1. Reading:

  • RazKids: read 1-2 stories and complete the questions
  • MySciLearn: complete your first story of the week
  • Epic Books: read for enjoyment after you have completed the rest of your work

#2. Writing: You will write an acrostic poem. If you remember, you wrote an acrostic poem about winter with Mrs. Leroux and they were up on the bulletin board in the hallway. Please watch this video to refresh yourself with what an acrostic poem is. For today’s poem, you will choose to either write your name or the word summer, vertically at the start of each line of the poem. Remember you will need to start each line with the letter you write. Here is the worksheet to write your poem. When you are done, upload your work to Teams Under Acrostic Poem.

#3. Math: Today the grade 2’s will be reading graphs and the grade 3’s will be learning about division. Grade 3’s, we will not get to reading graphs this year, so I encourage you to look at the grade 2’s work and complete the worksheets.

  • Grade 2’s: If you joined Mrs. Nicoll’s Zoom meeting last Wednesday, you should be ready to get right to work. If you missed the meeting, you will need to know that you are learning about vertical bar graphs. We read the information about the graph by looking at the title and the words on the bottom on the graph. The numbers on the side tell us how many people chose the answer. The bar graph will be filled in to show how many people choose the answers. On your worksheet, read the information in the graph and complete the questions.    Worksheets 1 & 2
  • Grade 3’s: Today you will continue to learn about division. Just like we used repeated addition to figure out multiplication questions, we can use repeated addition to solve division questions. On the first sheet, you will begin by adding the numbers up. Let’s look at the first question. It says 4 + 4 + 4 = ___ . We know that equals 12. We will carry that answer over to the division problem where it says ___ ÷ 4 = 3. You will write 12 in the blank. Where it says ____ groups of the number ____, we will count how many groups there are, which is 3. In the blanks you will write there are 3 groups of the number 4. On the second sheet, you will count the picture and fill it in the blank. For the first question there are 12 flowers and the question says there are 4 flowers in each group. Draw a circle around every 4 flowers, then count how many groups you have. The amount of groups you have is the answer, so 12 ÷ 3 = 4  Worksheets 1 & 2

#4. Father’s Day Card: Finish step 1 #3 , #4 and #5

#5. P.E.: Choose one of the following:
