Hello Everyone! Happy Friday!

Please join Mrs. Leroux and the kids who are at school for a Zoom meeting at 1:15. The link is in Teams.

Here are our morning announcements from Mrs. Field!

To celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day on Sunday, June 21st,  we will be sharing facts and music from the Canadian Indigenous Peoples:

  • The name of the maple tree in many Coast Salish language is “paddle tree” as it is traditionally the preferred wood for making paddles.
  • Indigenous people used their knowledge of the land to develop safe trails that became the basis for many present highways.
  • Elders are always given preferred seating and served first at gathering and ceremonies of Indigenous people.
  • Kelly Fraser is an acclaimed singer-songwriter who blended English and Inuktitut in her pop and hip hop-inspired songs. She was born in Sanikiluaq, Nunavut, and launched her singing career in 2013 with an Inuktitut-language version of Rihanna’s Diamonds, followed by her debut album Isuma the next year.  She received the Indspire Award in 2019 for using her music and her own personal  struggles to strengthen and promote Inuit culture and language, particularly among young Indigenous people in Canada.
