Hello Division 8!

Here are your morning announcements from Division 7!

To celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day on Sunday, June 21st,  we will continue to share facts and music from the Canadian Indigenous Peoples:

  • Elders are very important members of First Nation, Métis, and Inuit communities. The term Elder refers to someone who has attained a high degree of understanding of First Nation, Métis, or Inuit history, traditional teachings, ceremonies, and healing practices.
  • Indigenous cultures pass knowledge from generation to generation through oral traditions.
  • There is not one culture for all Indigenous nations. Each nation has its own culture, customs, beliefs, traditions, and world views.
  • Mob Bounce is a band formed by Craig Frank Edes aka The Northwest Kid (Gitxsan) and Travis Hebert aka EarthChild (Cree/Metis). They grew up in Northern BC and bonded over their love of hip hop. Mob Bounce is Indigenous influenced hip hop with a fuse of EDM (Electronic Dance Music), with traditional and contemporary aspects. Both Travis and Craig’s gripping lyricism delve into spirituality, social awareness/justice, and a connection to Mother Earth.  Song –  Keys to The Forest

#1. Reading:

  1. RazKids: read 1-2 stories and complete the questions
  2. MySciLearn: finish your second story of the week
  3. Epic Books: read for enjoyment after you have completed the rest of your work

#2. Writing: Hopefully you have been working hard on your Father’s Day Card. Today’s assignment is to complete the written part (Step 3 #1) that will go inside the card. If you have not made a card, you can still complete this sheet to give to your dad. There are two choices of sheets, so pick the one you like best. Insert sheet 1 and Insert sheet 2 . If you would like Mrs. Nicoll and Mrs. Leroux to see your work, you can upload onto Teams, but it is not necessary.

#3. Math:

  • Grade 2’s: Complete the worksheets on bar graphs. At the bottom of the second page you will see empty lines. You will fill the lines with the same sentences that are at the bottom of the other bar graphs (____ people read _____ books). Worksheets 1 & 2
  • Grade 3’s: For today’s assignment you will be drawing a picture in an array. If you recall, an array has rows and columns of pictures. To make an array for a division sentence is the same as for a multiplication sentence. If the questions says 15 happy faces, 5 in each row. I would draw a row with 5 happy faces, then draw another row with 5 happy faces, and keep going until it added up to 15 happy faces. You would end up with 3 rows. Then at the bottom of the box on the blank line I would write 15 ÷ 5 = 3. On the second sheet, question 3, you will have some leftover beanbags. When we divide and have a leftover, this is called a remainder. To answer, tell how many bean bags are in each group and then write how many are remaining. Worksheets 1 & 2

#4: P.E.: It’s should be another beautiful day to get outside for some exercise! Just like yesterday, go for a neighbourhood walk, a trail walk (Squint Lake or Burnaby Mountain have great ones), a bike ride, skipping, kicking a ball or practicing throwing and catching in a field.

#5: Art:  Art for Kids Hub – Today I’ve chosen the theme, vehicles.  You can choose anything from a hot air balloon to a sports car.  I can’t wait to see what you choose to draw! Remember to email it to me, Mrs. Leroux, so that I can add it to our gallery!

Have a thoughtful Thursday!

Mrs. Leroux
