Good morning Division 8! We are down to our last 3 days of online learning for this school year!

On Wednesday at 1:00 we will have our last Zoom chat. In it we will be taking a class photo (Zoom style). We hope everyone can “make it” to this meeting!
Here are your morning announcements from Ms. Hall.

To celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day on Sunday, June 21st,  we will be sharing facts and music from the Canadian Indigenous Peoples:

  • The number four is very important to many Indigenous peoples; it relates to the four cycles of life, the four seasons, the four directions, and the four elements.
  • The Sto:lo have the belief that the cedar tree was once a kind and gentle man who always gave to the people.
  • The number of cultures and languages of Indigenous peoples in BC is greater than the cultures and languages in Europe.
  • Embracing it’s members’ Indigenous roots, the group’s hard-to-characterize but innovative music blends hip-hop, dancehall and underground club music with First Nations vocal chanting and drumming. The unique mix has been described as “powwow-step”.  A Tribe Called Red has received multiple Indigenous People’s Choice Music Awards and won best music video at the Native American Music Awards in the US.  In 2014, they won a Juno for Breakthrough Group of the Year and was nominated for Electronic Album of the Year.  Song – Stadium Pow Wow

#1. Reading:

  • RazKids: read 1-2 stories and complete the questions
  • MySciLearn: read your first story of the week
  • Epic Books: read for enjoyment after you have completed the rest of your work
  • Connect to the library link at the top of the blog and listen to Mrs. Field’s weekly story

#2. Math:

  • Grade 2’s: In today’s assignment, you will be reading and writing tally marks. We have done a lot of class work with tally marks, so you should be familiar with how to use them. Tally marks are bundles of 5, with 4 sticks vertically and the last one diagonally. When we count tally marks, we could be fives and then count by ones with the left over marks. On the first sheet you will draw the tally marks for each picture. On the second page, you will either write the number beside the tally, or the the tally marks beside the number.  Worksheets 1 &2
  • Grade 3’s: For your work this week, you will be learning about fractions. Factions are pieces of a number or an object. We use them to show parts of a whole. It could be used for a number smaller than 1 or to break items into parts. For example, if I have a chocolate bar that I will share with 3 friends, I will need to break the chocolate bar into 4 equal pieces. If the item is not divided equally, it cannot be make into a fraction. In today’s work, you will count up the equal pieces of each shape. If the pieces are not equal, you will write 0. Please watch this video to understand how fractions show shapes divided equally. Worksheets 1,2 & 3
