Good morning Division 8!! It is our last full week before summer holidays. How exciting!!!

Here are your morning announcements from Ms. Hall!

Last chance for Div. 8 Lost and Found! We still have no claims for the grey and black stretchy gloves and now we are wondering who owns this umbrella with bicycles on it! Let us know!

We will have two Zoom meetings this week. One tomorrow at 1:00 (changed from Wednesday due to a staff meeting) and on Friday at 1:00.

#1. Reading:

  • RazKids: read 1-2 stories and complete the questions
  • MySciLearn: read your first story of the week
  • Epic Books: read for enjoyment after you have completed the rest of your work
  • Connect to the library link at the top of the blog and listen to Mrs. Field’s weekly story

#2. Math:

  • Grade 2’s: Today will be the last day of reviewing 2 digit subtraction. In today’s assignment, you will complete the subtraction equation and then check to see if your work is correct. You will check your work by adding the answer (called the difference) and the number you subtracted. For example, if the equation is 60 – 29 = 31, I would check my work by adding 31 + 29. If my answer is right, it will equal 60. If it does not equal 60, I know I did my math wrong and will need to go back a fix it.      Worksheets 1 & 2
  • Grade 3’s: Today you will begin learning about division. Division is very similar to multiplication, but is written in the opposite way. For example, if 5 x 6 = 30, the division sentence will be 30 ÷ 5 = 6 or 30 ÷ 6 = 5. When we divide, we start with a bigger number and put that number into equal groups. For example, there are 18 kids in our class. If I put you in groups of 3, how many groups will there be? Well, 18 ÷ 3= 6. I know this because 3 x 6 is 18. It is really important to know your multiplication facts when doing division. You could learn by getting flash cards or by studying the multiplication chart that was assigned last week. Listen to this story, The Cookie Fiasco by Dan Santatto to understand why we use division. In this story they wanted to share the cookies equally. In today’s work, you will put the pictures into groups to make equal groups.  Worksheets 1 & 2

#3. Art: Please refer to the post of the top of the blog that says Father’s Day Art and work on step 1 #1 and #2.

#4. Physical Health: Please choose an activity or two to complete 30 minutes of exercise today.

#5. Art: (for fun! optional!)  What will we draw today?  A minion! If you would like to share a drawing with the class, please ask a parent to email me (Mrs. Leroux) your picture and I will put it into the Gallery.  Have a look in the Gallery to see all the drawings that are already there! In fact, if you haven’t looked lately, Mrs. Leroux has learned yet another new tech skill and our gallery looks so much nicer now!!
