What We’ve Been Up To! April 11th

Hello division 15 families,

I hope you all had a good long weekend! We had many thematic lessons since we came back from spring break.

Ramadan:

As we came back from Spring Break, many members of the Morley Community have started observing the month of Ramadan. We learned about Ramadan and made many connections to other holidays we learned previously. For example, Ramadan and Diwali both have beautiful lanterns! I learned that some of our big buddies were fasting for Ramadan and that little kids like us do not fast (because we need to grow!). We learned some key words in our Ramadan Word Book and made our own lantern display. The title was written by Benyamin and Omar: Ramadan Mubarak(Blessed Ramadan)

Easter:

Another big holiday was Easter! Many of the kids were familiar with Easter as many of us were excited to go Easter egg hunting. Our big buddies helped us find the Easter eggs that were hidden by the Easter rabbit. We talked about the origin of Easter and how chicks hatching from eggs are a symbol of life– so we learned about the life cycle of a chicken! We created an interactive wheel that can spin and display the stages of a chick.

Art:

We started one of the bigger art projects we will do this term which is creating cherry blossom art. We created a background for the art using tempera paint and sponges. We tried our best to make a “gradient” by using two different colours and some sponges. We dabbed the paint onto the paper and attempted to blend them in the middle. It was fun and very messy! I look forward to completing this art and going out to see some real cherry blossoms.
