Last Week Today: February 23rd-25th

This week in school…

From speeches to portfolio this week has been a blast! We have done tons of things from presenting in class or creating our first picture reflection for portfolio.

Events
This week was all about kindness! On Wednesday, our school all took part in a Pink Shirt Day assembly in zoom where we got to see comics of kindness or pictures of what kind things you can do and, in the end, we all did the dance to “We’re all in This Together”.

Physical and Health Education
We only got one block of P.E but it was a blast. We had to learn from a dance tutorial to practice the choreography from “We’re all in This Together”.

Math
Math was all over the place this week, there was some days that had no math either because of Public Speaking challenge or because of celebrations like pink shirt day. But in math we have been still completing part 4 of JUMP math 7.2. We are learning about graphs and linear relationships.

Science
We didn’t really do that much of science this week but will be looking forward to watching a documentary of salmon illnesses and ecosystems.

Social Studies
Social Studies was a blast! I really enjoyed it. If you weren’t sure what we were doing in social studies then we were doing a game of catan, where groups of 4 were split into different civilization teams. Like I am on the Ancient Rome team and others are on the Ancient China, Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece teams.

Portfolios and Cover Page Art Project
Parents, well this is for you, our class will be posting images or pictures of our work from lit circle jobs to pictures of themselves doing work or having fun. But on the art side they will be doing sort of a passion project of their own. It could be a Lego sculpture or a collage of your grade 7 year. I personally really enjoyed it and I am sure the whole class like it too.

Literature Circle Meetings
With the last meeting on March 2nd, lit circles are starting to wrap up. With several different jobs lit circles has been one of the main subjects for this year, students meet about their different novels like Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus by Dusti Bowling or Ghost by Jason Reynolds, to name a couple.

Highlight of the week: Speeches
This week wrapped up one of the biggest projects we have worked on during term 2. Public Speeches. Everyone has presented and have all did an excellent job. Looking onward 3 great speeches will be going to the in-school finals where they can move on to the online conference finals with students from Lakeview Elementary.
