Morning message: Good Morning students. Today is Monday June 22nd  2020. June is more than half way done. There are 30 days in June so 15 + 15 = 30. How do you make 22?  Doubles 11 + 11 = 22.  Can you remember any other addition doubles? Here is the song to help you remember: Doubles! Doubles!

Literacy

Writing: I am attaching an “End of Year Memory Book”. This will be your writing activity for the whole week. There are 8 pages so you may choose to do 1 or 2 a day. You do not need to print the last autograph page as I have printed that page to put in your child’s scrapbook – Autograph final page.  Ms. Shaennen, Ms. Yu and myself have signed this page with a nice year end message for your child.

For the remainder of the pages, please make sure you are colouring neatly, using 5 or more colours, and adding in detail for your pictures. For you writing you should be using a pencil, printing neatly, stretching out all the words, and leaving spaces between words. Parents you may want to help your child brainstorm ideas that they can use in their book.

First day of school, birthday celebrations, Noisy Reading, Action Kit, Library / Story Workshop, Buddy gym, Computers, Music classes, Terry Fox Run, Montecito Pumpkin Patch, Halloween Parade, Food Drive, Haunted House, Pajama Day, Pancake Breakfast, Drum Making, Learning Indigenous Songs / Oral Stories, Santa Photos, Skating Fieldtrip to Bill Copeland, Valentine’s Day Friendship Fruit Salad, Making mailboxes, Valentine’s Day Crafts, writing cards, Valentine’s Day Class Party, Sprinkle a Little Kindness, Have you Filled your Bucket? etc.

When all the pages are done you could put in a duo tang or staple together and have a nice keepsake of your child’s kindergarten / grade 1 year.

Reading: On Raz Kids, we have our ‘free account’ until July 9th.  Please choose one or two or more to read with an adult. They are varying levels so if you are finding one too hard or too easy choose a new book. Kindergarten students you can listen to the story and try finding words that you know. Grade 1s please read as much as the book as you can. It’s a good idea to practice the book a few times.

Math: Please see a math bingo sheet on the next page. There are 25 different math activities to choose from. Can you make bingo (5 completed activities in a row)? You may be able to get multiple activities done in a day as some should be very quick. This will be your math activity for the whole week. How many can you get finished in a week? For a challenge see if you can make your own math bingo sheet with different math activities to complete.

Here are a few symbols you may have seen before. > means greater than e.g. 10>3 and < means less than e.g. 2 < 6 and = means equal to e.g. 4 = 4. The easy way to remember which symbol means what is to think that the smaller number always eats the bigger number e.g 3 > 7, 10 < 4, 11 > 5 Watch this clip about a hungry alligator: Mr. Alligator Can Chomp On the page after the optional activities section, you will find the above three symbols. You could cut them out and practice around your house. Make two piles of toys, cheerios, books, socks, etc. and compare. Use the correct symbol to explain the sets. Hint: I always say, “Who’s still hungry?” The alligator /shark wants to eat more….
