“3 – Part Fiction Story”

** Please read the instructions carefully – Students will be sharing their “Fiction stories” at the next class Zoom meeting! ***

At school we were beginning to study the beginning, middle, and end parts of a story. In term 3 we were going to practice writing stories with a beginning, middle and end.

We had also briefly began learning about the difference between “fiction” and “non-fiction” stories, and we were planning to expand on this in term 3. We were going to begin working more on our “fiction” writing, by learning to use our creativity skills to write stories that are about fictional characters, fictional places and fictional story lines.

Unfortunately, we did not get a chance to delve into this further, however, I have put up some resources and an activity, to have students begin some “fiction” writing at home!

Please click to enlarge the picture to learn about the difference between “Fiction and Non-Fiction stories. Please look over the document with your child and discuss what you see.

After, you read about the difference between “Fiction and Non-Fiction” stories, think about ideas for writing your own “Fiction” story!

Remember: this is different from when you write in your journal about your own personal experiences! This is a made-up story, you can have any characters you want! Your story can be silly or scary!

Remember: it has to be appropriate for school!

To keep things simple for this first activity, we will be writing “short stories”, with a simple beginning, middle and end.

Please click to enlarge and read Ms. Yaz’s  two examples for a short fiction story.

I choose to do a silly story and a scary story … Hope you enjoy!

Fiction Story # 1: “The Boy and the Dinosaur”

Fiction Story # 2: “The Evil Monster”

Now that you have read Ms. Yaz’s Fiction stories … it is time to write your own!

Instructions:

  1. Think and brainstorm about an idea for a “Fiction story” that you want to write about

Remember: This is a make-believe story: it can be a funny story, a scary story, a story about princesses, monsters, or dragons!

  1. Write a simple beginning, middle, and end to your story.

Remember: There is usually a problem in a story that needs to get solved by the end!

Example: In Ms. Yaz’s story the problem was that the boy wanted to keep the dinosaur, but his mom said no. The solution was that the boy decided to shrink the dinosaur so he could keep it.

  1. Draw a picture to go along with each section of the story.

Remember: the beginning, middle and end all need a picture to go along with it, and should match what is happening in the story.

  1. Create a title for your story

Remember: Titles should be interesting and should make the reader want to read your story!
