You will have until Sunday 7:00pm to send a picture to justin.wu@burnabyschools.ca

1. Charlotte’s Web (Chapter 18)

Click me to read: Charlotte’s Web Chapter 18 <— click here

Questions:

  1. Charlotte said she will be writing for the last time (True or False)
  2. Charlotte told Wilbur she was making a special gift for him in the corner? (True or False)
  3. What does the word “humble” mean?
    1. Close to the ground
    2. To brag or boast
    3. not proud
  4. Where did Templeton find the word he brought to Charlotte
  5. Was Wilbur humble?

2. Journal Writing (15 minutes)

For your journal writing, I want you to write down your answers by adding a comment to this blog post so I can see it.

Topic: Explain to me what your “chill zone” or “zen spot” or “quiet area” or “your space” looks like. What is in your area? Where is it? Who is allowed to be there? When do you use it?

Example: My quiet area in my house is my spare bedroom where I have my office desk set up for work, my extra bed (old bed) to take naps in, and a rocking chair where I like to sit and watch YouTube videos with. This is my chill spot because Mrs. Wu does not come in here to bother me. I go in this spot when I need peace and quiet, whether it is doing my school work, teaching, or just wanting to watch videos. If I had the money I would buy a nice TV to put in here for my PS4. Currently my PS4 lives in the living room, but my wife does not like me playing too much. Sometimes when I’m tired or sad, I will go into my bed and take a nap and when I wake up I feel much better. Lastly, I love this area in the house the most because this is where I will sneak Callie (our Golden Retriever puppy) in to play with. My wife and I decided that Callie cannot go on the couch or the beds, but maybe I’ll sneak her into my chill spot so she can lay with me while I watch YouTube videos. Don’t tell my wife please…

3. PE: 10 Minutes Kid’s Cardio Workout (12:00pm on Thursday)

I would like to invite you to participate in a fun workout class. It is up to you whether you would like to join or not. It is your choice and YOU DON’T HAVE TO IF YOU DON’T WANT TO! See you all there. (Please use a Yoga mat so it doesn’t hurt your feet.)

Tuesday May 19, 2020

Good morning my wonderful class. Hope you all had a great long weekend. I was supposed to be at the Justin Bieber concert in Portland this weekend but COVID-19 messed that up. I’m happy to hear that some things will start to open up soon, but I hope everyone still is practicing social distancing, or else the second wave will come in and we will be locked inside our homes again. Now that I’m all refreshed from the weekend, I’m looking forward to teaching you all again. On Tuesday, today, we will do a ZOOM read aloud. On Thursday, we will do a ZOOM workout. Have a good week!

Follow-up Questions:

  1. What did Uncle look like?
  2. Why do you think Charlotte did not like him right away?
  3. What was different about Charlotte?
  4. What did Charlotte say when Wilbur asked about a new web?
    1. she could not make a web at the fair
    2. she was excited to get started
    3. she was very tired lately
  5. What was Wilbur worried about at the fair that first day?
    1. Charlotte
    2. The stranger’s remarks about Uncle’s great size
    3. both of the above

2. Journal Writing (15 minutes)

For today’s journal writing, we will all start with this prompt:

Five years from now, I will be…

Example: Five years from now, I will be still working at Capitol Hill Elementary doing the position I’m doing now. Half time with Mrs. Armstrong, and half time helping out the rest of the school. I want to stay here at Capitol Hill because the students, teachers, and dogs that visit are all so friendly and welcoming. I also love the snacks that Mr. Kanno gives us during Staff Meetings, so tasty. Aside from being at this school, I want to be a dad to two little girls and complete it with our dog Callie. I want to spend my Saturday mornings taking my kids to soccer games, and spend my Sunday mornings watching them learn how to swim at Eileen Daily. I want to pick them up from daycare and go to McDonalds on the way home and not tell mommy that I allowed them to eat junk food. I want to build forts, learn how to french braid, and let them paint my nails. I want to be the ultimate girl dad. In 5 years, I hope to have my 4Runner car that I’ve always wanted. So I can take my family on camping adventures and meet up with my brother and his family. In five years, I hope I am as happy as I am today, because even though COVID-19 is a bad time for everyone, it has brought me closer to my family and made me more aware of how to keep safe during a dangerous time. What do you hope for in five years?

3. PE: Full Body Indoor Workout (17 minutes)

Have a good workout! On Thursday I’ll be doing a Zoom workout with you at 1:00pm. Stay tuned for the invite!

Thursday May 14, 2020

Good Morning class! I will be hosting a group workout session at 1:00 pm on Thursday 🙂 Get excited. Well, to be honest I’m not looking forward to this because I feel like you are all stronger than me and will do a better job and I’ll be embarrassed.

1. Charlotte’s Web Read Yourself (Chapter 16)

For today, I want you to read the questions yourself and then call or email someone from class and tell them your answers. If you don’t have anyone’s email or phone number, then tell a sibling, parent, grandparent, dog, cat or fish the answers you got

CLICK ME TO READ: Chapter 16 . <—- click here

QUESTIONS:

  1. At first, Templeton said that the fair was…
    1. not interesting
    2. a rat’s paradise
    3. not safe for spiders
  2. How did Mr. Arable cause Wilbur to faint?
    1. he was talking about ham and bacon
    2. he dropped Wilbur’s crate too hard
    3. He said that Wilbur was still a runt
  3. What do you already know about ‘fairs’?
  4. What is the difference between how Wilbur got ready and how humans get ready?

2. Journal Writing (15 minutes)

For your journal writing, I want you to write down your answers by adding a comment to this blog post so I can see it.

Topic: What is my favourite flavour of ice cream and why?

Example: Okay, this is a very tough decision for me to make because I honestly just love all types of ice cream. Like Vanilla is good to have when you go to McDonalds and get it in a cone. It is the best when you have it in a Sundae and put chocolate sauce or Strawberry sauce on top of it. And lastly, it is really good for making milkshakes. Chocolate ice cream is good when you have it inside a cake, like they do at Dairy Queen. Chocolate is also good because you don’t need to add anything on top of it to make it taste better. Lastly, chocolate ice cream is the best because you’re not allowed to share it with your dog (as it is poisonous), which means more ice cream for me! But if I had to choose one flavour I would choose Salted Caramel from Earnest Ice Cream. This is my favourite kind ever. When I’m having a bad day, that ice cream makes me happy again. I just love the salty and sweet taste that comes with it. I also like to add peanuts to it because it reminds me of a REESE CUP, my favourite chocolate bar. Overall, I will eat any ice cream regardless. I just love it.

Tuesday May 12, 2020

Good Morning everyone!

As Mrs. Mentioned in the email on Friday, I now have you for both Tuesdays and Thursdays! Yipeee. With this being said I will outline what we need to do for today.

1. Charlotte’s Web Read Aloud (Chapter 15) @ 12:00pm on Tuesday

I would like to invite you to a virtual read aloud (on Zoom) at 12:00 pm on Tuesday. You don’t have to join this meeting, but if you want me to read to you while you follow along, that would be great! If you don’t attend, then you will be expected to read this on your own time. Here is the information:

Chapter 15

Follow-up Questions:

  1. What did Wilbur do when people visited the farm to look at him?
  2. Why do you think he did that?
  3. True or False: Summer was coming to an end?
  4. True or False: Wilbur became stuck up and boastful (bragging) from all of his visitors
  5. Why was Charlotte worried about the fair?
    1. She did not know how to get there
    2. She had to create a new web soon
    3. She had to lay her eggs soon

2. Journal Writing (15 minutes)

For your journal writing, I want you to write down your answers by adding a comment to this blog post so I can see it.

Topic: School Rules. If you could make a new school rule, what would it be?

Example: The one rule that I would like to change is the ‘hat rule.’ I think this rule is silly because I always wear a hat, whether I’m at home, going out for run, or if I’m going out to Glenburns for a strawberry ice-cream sundae. Just like how glasses have become a part of my appearance, a hat is too. There is no Mr. Wu, without him with glasses and a hat. Another reason why I dislike the hat rule is because I’m getting old and my hair is starting to fall out. I know that because I’m wearing hats too much, it has sped the process of me balding, but now I am FORCED to wear it because I have no more hair on my head. Yikes. Lastly, I think that hats should be allowed because we are always being told in school to put our “thinking caps” on … well, here is the chance for everyone to make their own ‘thinking hats’ and actually wear it.

3. PE: Sweat Away Stress Workout

Have a good workout! On Thursday I’ll be doing a Zoom workout with you at 1:00pm. Stay tuned for the invite!

Week 5: All About COVID-19 paragraph

Happy Monday class,

Thank you all for the food submissions you’ve given me. I’m overwhelmed with the amazing dishes you all created. My wife and I wanted to try the foods so bad, but we just trust that you all enjoyed making and eating it yourselves. For the winners, please expect a phone call and delivery today. If you haven’t heard back from me, check your emails and send me over your addresses and phone numbers.

Onto this week’s homework. We are taking a break from Charlotte’s Web for 1 week and we will focus on “YOUR QUESTIONS” about COVID-19. Please watch the video then write a paragraph about whatever you want COVID-19 related. Here are some questions you can help answer:

  • Why do we think schools are being closed and we are learning online?
  • Why must we continue to social distance if we haven’t left the house and the chances of us getting COVID-19 is slim?
  • How has COVID-19 affected my physical health?
  • How has COVID-19 affected my mental health?
  • How has COVID-19 affected my social life?
  • When do we think schools will reopen?
  • What have I learned so far during this pandemic?
  • How have I grown over this whole experience?

I look forward to reading your replies and I encourage you to answer each other’s paragraphs too. Have a wonderful week.

Charlotte’s Web Chapter 12-14

Good morning class,

Today is Pro-D-Day so you will/can have the day off to professionally develop (as students) in: gaming, trampoline jumping, bothering your siblings, or practicing eating. In other words, you can do what you want today, as long as you don’t bother your parents!

This week, I will get you to read Chapter 12-14, and then write me a short paragraph about your thoughts on the story so far. That’s it! All you need to do is tell me why you like the story, why you don’t like, any predictions on what you think will happen, and most importantly, use examples from the story to explain why you feel that way. Have a great week!
