  • N1F5 – Silence, C’est L’hiver – A book about hibernation. A concept we have just finished learning about in class
  • N11F5 – Collection Je lis n1: A great collection of easy to read books for learning basic site words in French. A great foundation for Gr.1
  • N12F5 –  Couleurs  – Great, creative book on colours

Collection N.6

  • N8F6 and N9F6 –  Great for number and letter concepts
  • N22F6 – Je suis capable St. Valentin – An easy read for Valentines

Cold and Flu Season

I thought it would be helpful to share this information on what school expecations are around cold and flu season

Cold and Flu Season

The most important thing to note is the 24 hour rule. If your child has had FEVER, VOMITING or DIARRHEA, please keep them home for 24 hours after their symptoms have gone away. For example, if you child has a fever at night, please do not send them to school in the morning. I can appreciate the stress of finding childcare last minute having my own children who have been sick all month! But it is best for the overall health of everyone.

Also, here is the information the district has posted about the Coronavirus: Cornavirus_Update_to_Families

What’s coming up in February !

A reminder that Mme. Giugliani’s email is Vanessa.giugliani@burnabyschools.ca. Please direct Mon-Wed emails to her unless its important information that we both need, then CC.

For Valentines Day, we will have a play-based and craft morning from 9-10. Parents and guardians are invited to the classroom to participate. The students will be making valentines for their friends but if you have Valentines you would like to distribute, please send them in by Feb 13th so I can allocate time on Friday. I prefer for the Valentines to have no names as it can take a long time for a Kindergartener to read and sort 20 valentines. Thank you 🙂

Mme. Giugliani Email and Friday Event

Hello parents

Mme.Giugliani has her Burnaby email:

vanessa.giugliani@burnabyschools.ca

Please direct emails on Monday to Wednesday to her as it is not likely that I will be checking emails on those days. If it is something we both need to know, please CC me.

A reminder to call the school for any lates or absences as per school protocol.

This friday is parent participation friday! Parents are welcome to attend the morning from 9-10. We will have various arts and crafts for the upcoming Lunar New Year.

Our next parent participation friday is Friday Feb 14th for Valentines Day. We will have special exploration centres and crafts planned for that day. Our theme will be friendship and family! The students will have an opportunity to create Valentines for their peers. If you choose to send some of your own, I ask that you sign only your child’s name as it can take up to 30 minutes per child to hand out Valentines in Kindergarten when they have to identify names 😆 Please let me know ahead of time so that I can allocate time for distribution. But it is absolutely not necessary.

Merci!

Mme. Marando

Scholastic and other reminders

Salut!

We survived the first week back! Here is some information to share:

Two notices were sent home today. I have also added them to Freshgrade. Fit Fridays begins on THURSDAY Jan 23rd and continues FRIDAY Feb 7 and 14th. The second form was for Hot Dog and Samosa Day. First special hot lunch day is January 24th.

The letter of the week will be M. I apologize, it didn’t seem clear in last weeks email.

Scholastic order forms were sent home. They are due next THURSDAY. If you have ordered with Mme. Mauro in the past, please make sure to select my name or else the order will go to her account and will not be submit. Thank you!

Snow days: The students had so much fun playing today! Please ensure your child has appropriate snow gear or rain gear for upcoming snow days. They are out at recess and lunch and love jumping in the snow. Please put pants under snow pants, not stockings as we ask them to take their snow pants off during class time.

Etoile: The next etoile is Max, not Elsa. Which works well since Elsa will be in Hawaii. Have fun, Elsa!

Parent Participation Fridays: There are a lot of celebrations coming up this term and I like to open the classroom to parents who would like to join us! The first PPF is Friday January 24th.  Lunar New Year is on Sat Jan 25th. I would like to do something for this on the Friday. If there are any parents who would like to help me organize an event, please let me know. If not, we will partake in various arts and crafts in the morning of Jan 24th from 9-10am. Parents are invited to attend.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we welcome Mme. Giugliani into our classroom! She has been off to great start.  Please let me know if you notice any errors or if I forget to mention something as I take over all communication for the next few weeks while we let Mme. Giugliani get settled. I will provide an email address for her when she’s all set up.

Thank you!

Litterless Lunches at Brantford

Cher parents,

You should have received a newsletter or email from the school that discusses the NEW litterless lunch program, a leadership initiative from the Gr.7s. Here is some info:

The ultimate goal is for all snack wrappers & other recyclable materials (ie. coffee cups etc.) to go home to get recycled by families as opposed to being thrown out in school garbage cans. The school community will also be invited to be a part of this by familiarizing them with Return-It depots & London Drugs locations who will take all those soft plastics, wrappers, chip bags, etc.
Here are some FAQs answered by the Gr. 7 teacher.
1) Can we put bones into the food bin? Yes! Bones of all kinds, skin, fat, paper plates…all of that can go in. Hot lunch containers can also go in school compost.
2) Why do we have to take these items home to recycle (ie. soft plastics, yogurt, wrappers)? Why can’t the school recycle these for us?
Recycling companies will only pick up residential recycling, they will not pick up institutional amounts. Most families go to Return-It depots for cans or London Drugs for shopping anyways so bringing along a bag to recycle shouldn’t be too difficult.
The Gr.7 students will be working with the Ks to help them learn about ways to reduce waste. We appreciate your anticipated cooperation.
Merci,
Mme. Marando and Mme. Giugliani

Library books due tomorrow and pick up

Cher parents,

We had a great day back and Mme. Giugliani spent lots of time getting to know your little one! She is very excited to be teaching in our class!

I forgot to add return library books today! Please send them tomorrow 🙂

Thank you to all that participated in Lettre de la semaine. Today was lettre L so keep those M objects for next week.

Also, I have reviewed dismissal expectations with Mme. Giugliani but for tomorrow and Wednesday, could you please come up to the door to collect your child and introduce yourself? This will help her learn all your names and faces. Thank you so much!
