Firehall visit 🚒

Our class had a great visit the the local firehall this week!
Our Social Studies unit about our community and community helpers was enhanced by seeing the firehall in person just for our class!
The class learned about safety, what to say when calling 911, all about the firefighter’s safety gear and a special fire truck tour!
Our class was excited to see one of the fireman go down the fire pole and everyone got to go inside the truck and spray with the hose!

I spy around the school

We walked around the school to look for natural and man-made structures and places in our community. Students had a lot of fun looking for them, finding and recording the information.

Earth day 🌱

This week we did a paint print using paper plates to create an image of Earth. We talked about ways we can help to keep Earth and our community a great place to live, learn and play.

Check out division 18’s unique Earth prints below.

Community mural

We have been learning about communities in social Studies. We learned about rural, urban and suburban communities. We also learned about places in the community and community helpers.

The students brainstormed places in the community and together created a mural. We have an urban area with sky scrapers, a mall, a hospital, school, lots of houses and a park, an airport, a train station, a farm and some cars on the road!

Colours and science 🔴🟡🔵

Today our Alpha big buddies came to our class to teach the students about primary and secondary colours. They also did an experiment with milk and food colouring and colour mixing! It was hands on and so fun!
