Last week we had our annual Terry Fox Run. We learned about Terry, practiced our running and helped collect money to continue Terry’s Marathon of Hope.
Our run day was stunningly beautiful. The whole school participated in a warm-up and then headed out for our run. Several members of the Burnaby Fire Department joined us to run for Terry.
This week we are starting to learn to read a new word each week – We call it W.O.W.

Here is a super easy way to learn how to tie shoelaces. Watch this video with your child a few times and give it a try!!
If the shoes do not have an extra eyelet to tuck the laces into you can tuck the laces under the tongue of the shoe as well. Once your child has become comfortable with the looping method (in a few weeks or months) you can teach them to hold the loops rather than tucking them.

We have the BEST Music teacher at South Slope! Not only is she busy preparing all of us for our school musical….but, she made time to help us sing to our Spuds in Tubs. I’m sure they grew 10cm as they heard us singing!
Divisions 10 and 11 were very excited to have the Burnaby Fire Department come to read a story to us today! After the story we were even more thrilled to go and visit & tour their fire truck!
As winter weather approaches, there is occasionally the chance it will snow. You may wonder if the school will be open or not. Typically it will be!

On Tuesday, September 5th – Grade One Students attend from 9-10am. They should go to room 114.
Kindergarten Welcome Packages were mailed out on August 14th. We look forward to meeting with all of you during the first week of school! Kindergarten children do not attend class the first week of school.

In Science this term, we’ve been learning about animals that live under the sea! We read many fictional & non-fictional books and were all super excited to visit the Vancouver Aquarium!
We toured the Aquarium in small groups with our parent volunteers. Then we got to go to the Aquarium classroom and learn more about the animals that live in the oceans of British Columbia. Just before we headed for the bus back to school we went down to the beach to run about and investigate the shoreline.
We had a wonderful time on Friday! Thank you so much to our fantastic parent volunteers!!
