Activity 3 Gratitude Poster/Sign

Please make a sign to share a message of gratitude for health care workers and/or essential service workers. You may choose to hang this on your window or find another place to display it. The purpose of this learning task is to share our thanks and show our appreciation for those who are keeping our community safe and healthy!

Task:

  •  With parents or siblings, brainstorm who is working in our community right now and what jobs are considered essential services
  • Write down a list of these jobs
  • Use any supplies you have at home (paper, crayons, pencils, markers, paint, etc.) to create a sign or poster
  • Write words of gratitude/appreciation/thanks directed at health care or essential services workers
  • Draw colourful pictures and images to go with your writing
  • Remind your child to make their writing big and bold if they want people to see it from the window

Activity 4 Shape Hunt

Task:

  • Brainstorm with your child the different types of shapes that there are (circle, square, triangle, cube, sphere, etc.)
  •  Talk about 2D shapes (shape that is flat) and 3D shapes (3 dimensional and can move through space)
  • Go around the house and find any shapes that you can see
  • Discuss if it is a 2D shape or 3D shape. Think about what makes them different (number of sides, numbers of corners, etc.)
  • Take a picture of some of the shapes in your house

Hello Families of Division 10,

Here are some tips for uploading your child's work onto Freshgrade:

  • Please use either the Student Freshgrade website or app (it will be the green colour one)
  • Once you have the page opened, it should prompt you for an access code which was emailed out to families last week
  • If you need a new access code please let me know and I can send it out again
  • After signing in, it should show you the activity and have an upload button to submit assignments
  • Most activities should be an upload of a photo of your child's work, further down the road I may ask for a recording of your child demonstrating certain skills
  • The submission for a video is similar to the submission of a photo
  • The Parent Freshgrade app (purple one) only allows for families to view their child's portfolio and make a comment, so please ensure you have the student one
  • If you have any other questions please let me know

Thank you!

Hello Families of Division 10,

Thank you all for being so patient and understanding during these uncertain times. I just wanted to recap what has happened this week and give out just a little more information. Recap: Students have access to Razkids and Epic, students will be using Freshgrade to post their daily activities, and I am able to be reached by email at any time between 9am-3pm Monday to Friday. If you would prefer a phone call we can arrange a time.

Moving forward I will try my best to limit the number of emails that I send and all announcements, information, activities and resources will be posted on my school blog http://sd41blogs.ca/diepr/ . The blog can also be accessed through the Suncrest webpage under classes and next to my name. The blog homepage has a Q&A section with some key information, it has a blog tab where daily posts will appear including the activities from Freshgrade, it has an extra activities tab that students can access to mix up the routines and keep them engaged, and there is a classroom routines tab that will offer some familiar activities that we do regularly in class.

Lastly, sometime next week I will try to create a schedule so that students who wish to can video chat with me to tell me how they are doing. Please look out for more information about that in the coming days.

I hope everyone is able to have a safe and relaxing weekend with their families. I look forward to connecting again soon.

Warmest regards,

Rebecca Diep

Loose Parts Creation

Every morning in our class we would start our day by using loose parts to create something that the students are interested in, likes, or is curious about. This allows the students to settle in, get engaged and be hands on.

For today's activity I would like students to go around the house and look for loose parts that they can use to create something. Loose parts can be almost anything. For example, LEGO, bottle caps, rocks, buttons, etc. When you are finished making your creation or image, please take a picture and upload it. I look forward to seeing everyone's creativity!

Please write a detailed journal entry including a picture about some of the things that you and your family did over the spring break. I look forward to reading what you write!

Some things to keep in mind when writing are:

- Capital letters at the beginning of each sentence and for names

- Sentences have full and complete ideas (subject and verb)

- Finger spaces between each of the words

- Punctuations at the end of each sentence

A song we listened to in class to help us remember the parts of a sentence is linked: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUgh7O5JV-E

The platform I have decided to use to share resources and activities is a program called Freshgrade. It is a free, safe and easy to use program that is used by many teachers throughout the province. An email will be sent to out too families to connect parents to the Freshgrade class page.  There will also be an access code sent out to access student Freshgrade where your child can post their completed activities. I will be posting about 2-3 activities daily that your child is encouraged to participate in throughout the day. When they are finished the activity they can upload it through the app or on a computer and I will see it and share it with their peers. These activities do not have a due date and can be completely based on the schedule you and your child have come up with together. Please take the time to familiarize yourself and your child with Freshgrade. I will start by posting one activity a day for the rest of this week and have more uploaded on Monday and onward. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know and I will try my best to answer them.
