Thursday May 7

Hi all, please see the today’s learning opportunities below!

We have a class meeting at 2:00pm today. Please join us on Teams where we’ll be doing a group game like we did last week! See you there!

For social studies, you will be looking at another natural resource: fish. You will learn about categories within the fishing industry and even learn a bit about farmed fish.

For math, both grades will be doing 1 lesson. Both grades do not have anything extra to do on Teams.

  • Math 4: Identifying Triangles: Video lesson here. It might also help you to print out this cheat sheet.
  • Math 5: Classifying quadrilaterals. No tutorial video as this lesson just wraps up the previous 4-5 lessons.

Please continue to practice your French on Duolingo!

Wednesday May 6

Hello everybody. Please see today’s schedule below:

For ELA, please you will find your assignment on Teams. Please read the poem once again, in stanzas. What’s a stanza? You will know what it is after you head over to Teams and watch a lesson on it. After watching the video, please read your assigned poem and do a reflection about it.

For math, you will continue with our regular math lessons. Please find the video lessons below:

  • Grade 4: 1 lesson – Types of Angles: Video lesson: click here.
  • Grade 5: 2 lessons – Rectangles and rhombuses: Video lesson: click here.

For science, you will be learning about temperate rainforests. You will be comparing temperate rainforests with tropical rainforests. Information can be found on Teams!

Tuesday May 5

Hello everyone. Here’s today’s schedule.

First, we have a class meeting at 10:30am. Please join us as we discuss our work for the week and reading resources that we can find on the internet.

For math, you will continue lessons on Math IXL. Both grades have 2 lessons. Please find video lessons below.

  • Math 4: Perpendicular, parallel, and intersecting lines. Click here for your lesson about lines vs segments vs rays. Click here for your video lesson about types of lines.
  • Math 5: Identifying parallelograms and trapezoids. Click here to learn about both shapes as well as their similarities and differences. 5’s also have an assignment on Teams. For this assignment, all you have to do is tell me in your own words, the difference between a parallelogram and a trapezoid.
    • Hint: Parallelograms has the word parallel in it 🙂

For ELA, you will be learning and writing acrostic poems. You will find this assignment on Teams

You will have the rest of the day to do some catching-up. I’ve noticed that our percentage of assignments handed in on time has dropped a little bit. This is absolutely okay. I don’t want to overwhelm you by constantly pushing out new assignments, so instead of giving you another assignment, I want you to use this time to ensure that the work that you have yet to finish is done to the best of your abilities. For those of you who are done, read a book! Explore Ms. Ho’s website to access books. Use Epic Books! All this information is on the class blog.

Monday May 4

Hope you all had a good weekend. The weather was odd! One hour it was pouring and then the other hour was sunny! Hopefully you were able to catch some sunlight!

Here’s today’s schedule:

For math, both grades have 1 new lesson. I will no longer be posting links to math lessons on Teams. Instead, tutorials will be posted here on the class blog and also sent to your @edu.burnabyschools.ca email.

  • Grade 4: No tutorial video. However, this image (click here) will help you on your assignment.
  • Grade 5: Tutorial Video: Click here. KEY POINT: parallel sides means the distance between them never change and always go towards the same direction.

For ELA, you will be reading about tropical rainforests. It is a different reading that goes more in-depth. Please read and then answer the response questions on the bottom. On Thursday, you will be reading about temperate rainforests and will need to compare and contrast the two types of forests, so my suggestion would be to print this reading out (if possible) and highlight KEY things that make this rainforest a tropical one.

Your last task of the day is to explore Ms. Ho’s website. Click here to access it. On Teams, there’s an assignment where you will tell me something on the website that you like and why you might want to try it. The website’s home page is still in construction but please click on the menu tabs that read “audio and ebooks/ read alouds/ games”.

See you on Teams!… and watch this when you have a break! https://youtu.be/vgo1vFvXHAw

Friday May 1

Welcome to May! Hopefully we’ll see lots of May flowers! Thanks for a wonderful class meeting yesterday! Congratulations to Neveah for winning many virtual emojis in our group chat through our mini scavenger hunt! We’ll have our next class meeting on Tuesday at 10:30am and then on Thursday at 2:00pm where we’ll play another game!

Today will be a lighter day. Thank you for your feedback through our small group check-ins. Because of your input, I now have a better understanding of our strengths and stretches of our e-Learning classroom. Today will be a good time for you to catch-up on any work that you are behind in.

For today, please work on the following in the following order.

Start your scavenger hunt. It is purposely made to be confusing. You will have to go between this class blog, your email, and Teams. I like to eat fruits. Click here to see the fruit.

Please work on any work that is not yet finished. This can be SS, Science, Math, or any other ELA poetry assignment.

For current events, please read an article about how some provinces in Canada are set to allow students back to school. Please make sure to post your response in the appropriate channel.

For art, please check for detailed instructions in the assignments tab on Teams. This week and next week’s art will be self-guided so that you can make something special for special people in your lives.

Please continue typing and practicing your French! As mentioned during our class meeting yesterday, make sure to check out Ms. Ho’s library blog where she has great reading material (all free!) Click here to access her blog.

I will be checking in with many of you in small groups today. Hope to see you all on Teams today!

Thursday April 30

Class meeting at 2:00PM. Please join us!

It was great to connect with even more of you yesterday. I continue to encourage you to check this blog and your email daily for the most up-to-date information! Thank you to those who have checked these two places daily. If only I can send physical pencils, erasers, and other prizes through email…..

Here are today’s learning opportunities:

For ELA, you will be writing a Cinquain poem. I’ve attached 2 tutorials on Teams to support your learning. One video will talk to you about the form of a Cinquain poem. The other video will teach you how to properly format your poem.

For math, you will continue working on Math IXL. No additional mini-project today. Your maps are due today, so please work on that too if you have not yet finished. Grade 4’s do not have a video tutorial. Grade 5’s have a video tutorial on Teams.

We have a class meeting at 2:00PM.

Please continue practicing your French! It’s been great to hear how you all have found your unique way of practicing this language.

Wednesday April 29

Hi all, we’ve got a full day today. First off, it was great to check in with some of you yesterday. It’s so nice to see how you have all transitioned to a new type of learning in such little time!

Here’s our schedule for today:

For ELA, you will be making inferences after reading a poem. This can be tricky, but I’ve uploaded a lesson to go along with this lesson. Please take time to watch the video and pause when I ask you to so that you work at a proper pace.

For Math, you will find one new Math IXL Lesson. Grade 5’s have a tutorial on Teams. Grade 4’s do not have a tutorial on Teams.

Please continue your typing! I can’t track or see your growth in typing, but if we do return to school, I’m really hoping we’ve improved!

For social studies, we are going to look at deforestation, the forestry industry, and our relationship with this renewable natural resource.

I will be meeting with 7 of you today, so if it isn’t a habit already, please check your email for your meeting time!

See you on teams!

Tuesday April 28

Our class meeting today is cancelled. However, I will be meeting with a bunch of you today either in small groups or individually.

STUDENTS: Please check your email (#######@edu.burnabyschools.ca) as I have emailed you with information of when I will be meeting with you! Click email login at the top to go to your email.

Here are the learning opportunities for today:

For math, I have assigned one new lesson on Math IXL. There is a video tutorial on MS Teams and you can find this tutorial on the assignments tab. Once you are done watching the lesson, you can click TURN-IN (even though there isn’t anything for you to actually turn in).

For ELA, you will be writing a Bio Poem. Please review the video in the assignment tab for more instructions on what you need to do.

For Science, you will be doing some work on the tropical rainforest biome. Some of you have already learned a bit about biomes, but we will be doing some more in-depth work about biomes soon.

For music, you have three forms to complete. You can find the links to these forms on Teams. Please go through them, and make sure to click TURN-IN once you are finished all three forms.

Questions? Talk to me on the chat or email me.

Friday April 24

Hello again! It was great to see many of you during yesterday’s class meeting. We will continue to hold regular meetings on Tuesday at 10:30am and on Thursday at 2:00pm.

Important – before 12:00 noon today, there will be an assignment called Meeting Schedule. It’s not really an assignment. Instead, it’s just going to ask you to check in with your parents to see when would be a good time for you to have your one-to-one check-in with me. These check-ins will take place next week, so please make sure that once you’ve signed up for a time that you also note it down somewhere. Your parents are welcome to join our one-to-one conversations next week.

Here’s today’s schedule:

For Current Events and Journal Writing, you will be reading and responding to an article about how got cleaner during Covid-19.

For art, you will be thinking from the heart and will be creating a simple, but honest piece of work.

Please continue to type using ATRT or through a website approved by your parent.

Please also continue practicing your French by using Duolingo to practice your everyday basic conversational phrases.

Monday is a Pro-D Day. Though I will not be posting a schedule on Monday, feel free to work on any work that you feel should be done. However, most of your time on Monday should be spent relaxing. Enjoy the weekend! Read some books, help your parents make something!

See you on Teams!

Thursday April 23

Hello everyone,

We have a class meeting at 2:00pm today. To join, check Teams at around 1:50 and you will see an invitation button that simply says “Join Meeting”. Please remember to join with your microphone muted.

Here’s today’s schedule:

For ELA, you will continue learning about 3 poetic devices. We are almost ready to begin writing our own poetry!

For Math, you will have your first mini-project of the term. This mini-project will be done on paper so I would suggest you to print the rubric out and have it beside you if you have a printer. You will be making a mini map using the lines and shapes that you’ve learned about so far. This project is due next Thursday. I will be posting a video explanation sometime today.

At 2:00, we have our class meeting. See you then!

For French, continue working on Duolingo to build your foundation of French words. Instructions can be found here.

Please remember to continue filling out your P.H.E activity log!

Take care and see you on Teams!
