Happy New Year!
We had a fun day doing activities around the Lunar New Year.
Last week we created lanterns which are hanging in our room.
Today we worked with our buddies to do the horoscope.
Grade 1/2 Experiences at Rosser Elementary
As a wrap-up to our fairy tale unit, we have been enjoying two books by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. The first one is pictured above – The Jolly Postman or Other People’s Letters. The second one is the sequel – The Jolly Pocket Postman – pictured below.
We then created our own versions of these books. Our booklets have two envelope pages. One page contains a postcard to her stepmother from Cinderella while the other contains a jigsaw puzzle of the Three Little Pigs sent by the Big Bad Wolf. All these things were created by the students. These are hanging on the bulletin board at the back of our classroom.
We have been very busy since we got back to school. We have been discussing the idea of ‘resolutions’ as a promise to one’s self to work on things to improve ourselves in whatever area we choose (i.e. behaviour, friendships, academics, work ethics, etc.).
We also made party hats with our buddies. These are on the bulletin board outside of our classroom by the office.
We read the book, “The Polar Express”, by Chris Van Allsburg. We then created our little booklets. The second page is a storyline illustration in a sequence. The last page is a drawn picture of their favourite scene from the book. The covers are quite well coloured.
We will be watching the movie on Friday to wrap up our week before the holidays.
We did this activity over two weeks. The first week students created patterns on their mittens. The second week they glued them onto blue construction paper and did a winter scene around it. These are in the hallway by the Office. Some are from our class and some are our buddies’ mittens. Other of our mittens are in the hallway by Mrs. Branco’s room.
