Our Finished ‘Picasso’-Style Faces
Abstract Faces – in the style of Pablo Picasso
We looked at some art pieces by Picasso. We read a story book about him called, “Pablo Picasso and the Girl With the Ponytail” by Laurence Anholt.

We then created our own ‘abstract’ faces on tag board with black Sharpies. We worked through the sections together as a directed drawing lesson. We incorporated eyes, eyebrows, noses, mouths, cheeks, necks, jawlines, hair, and head dresses.

Students then added ‘embellishments’ such as waves, squiggles, squares, dots, or their own inventions. We will be colouring these, a section at a time, over the course of next week. Students have really been enjoying this project. I can’t wait to show you all their finished results.

A Few Words About Penguins
Growth Chart
Clouds were added to our growth chart for each student at their current height. Penguins were also added at their typical height.
Students enjoyed seeing how they ‘measured up’ to both their classmates and the penguins.

Students will be measured again in June to see how much they will have grown in height.
Penguin Art
Last week we painted colourful background papers onto which we (this week) mounted the penguins that were made from construction paper. Some students decided to add extra feathers and colourings to make their penguins into Rockhopper or Macaroni penguins. These are on the bulletin board in the hallway outside of our classroom.
