Watercolour Techniques

Posted by on January 20, 2017

This week we explored a new watercolour technique to create a ‘textured’ background SALT!

We used two different varieties of salt (coarse and table) to create an interesting background for our snowflakes.  We had a great time mixing and blending the liquid watercolours, and learning about polychromatic colour schemes.  We learned quickly that we needed to add the salt while the paint was still wet, or we wouldn’t achieve the desired effect.

We also worked on developing our fine motor skills by folding paper and cutting small shapes or pieces out to create our own snowflakes.

Check out our gallery below to see the work in progress, as well as the finished product–or stop by and check out our bulletin board display.
