Music

Hello Parkcrest!

Hello Parkcrest Students and Families,

This is my first post of all time. When I’m not teaching, I don’t usually spend much time on the computer. I’m too busy singing and dancing, reading and baking, going out to church activities or to visit my friends and family. I certainly never thought I would have my own blog! Wow! However, if this is how I get to stay connected to you…then learning this new skill is going to be GREAT.

I miss you all very much! I especially miss hearing your beautiful singing voices and musical talent.  I even miss the 138 questions that come my way each day when teaching almost the whole school daily. I hope you will continue to ask questions and love learning music, even if it will be online for now.

I have created this blog in order to keep in touch with all of you and to teach you some new things at home. I am so glad that we are all following the experts advice to stay safe. We should make sure to wash our hands, stay at home, practice social distancing and be kind and respectful to the people in our house.

I would love to hear from you! You can reply in the comments to this post or send me an email at: liz.vaesen@burnabyschools.ca. Please tell me three things: 1) The best thing about your Spring Break. 2) Your favourite song right now.  3) Any question that you might be wondering? Below are my answers:

    1. The best thing about Spring Break was that I was able to get to Vancouver Island and visit my parents before we were recommended to stay home.
    2. My favourite song right now is “Can’t Stop the Feeling” by Justin Timberlake because sometimes you just need to get up from your work and have a dance break! Can you do any of the dance moves in this video? Here is a link: Can’t Stop the Feeling

3.  I’m wondering when the coronavirus will have a vaccine.

I love and miss you all! Keep singing and stay safe,

Miss Vaesen

      Hi Mattea!
Thank-you for answering my questions. I miss seeing you as well! I’m glad to hear that you are enjoying online learning. I’m very new to all of this so even trying to access your comment and reply was hard for me! However, I love learning new things too. Please keep checking this website for more music activities each week. However, remember to finish your classroom work first, of course.
At this time, we will explore other music activities as our recorders are at the school and we need to follow the experts advice about staying home. Don’t you worry though, I have plans to pick up right where we left off and have a great recorder unit planned for when we return to classroom teaching.
Stay safe, stay home and stay healthy!

      Hi Ellie!
I love board games! During Spring Break, my family and I were playing games using online cameras into each others homes. It was fun. I hope you always listen to the clean version of your favourite song 🙂 I agree with you that it is good to follow the experts advice about staying home and away from other people at this time. However, I hope you reach out to talk to your friends or family on the phone or through the internet.

    1) The best thing about Spring Break was that I had BBQ with my families and my lovely dog, Winter.
    2) My favorite song right now is “There’s Something Special” in the movie “Despicable Me 3”. I love the movie so I love the song also.
    3) I’m wondering when we will be back to school again.

    • Miss Vaesen

      Hi Jonas!
Thank-you for replying to my post. I also love the movie “Despicable Me 3”! I miss school as well, but I am so happy to connect with students and staff online. I hope you will check my website for fun music activies that I will be posting. Remember, to do your school work from Ms. Marto first though 🙂

  • Candi

    1. The best thing about my Spring Break; I watched Frozen, and Frozen II three days in a row!
    2. My favourite song; I don’t have one!
    3. Any question I am wondering;
    •Is there still recorder karate?
•What will you do if you have a borrowed ukulele?

    • Miss Vaesen

      HI Candi!

Thank-you for replying to my post! I will answer your questions. Unfortunately we will not have recorder karate at this time, as students brought their recorders to school all ready to go for after Spring Break. We need to follow the experts advice about staying home and so we will explore other music activities at this time. Don’t worry though, we will pick up right where we left off once we return to classroom teaching and I will be sure to give extra time for recorder karate belts to be earned. If you borrowed a ukulele over Spring Break, just hang on to it and you can bring it back to the school once it reopens.

      Stay safe, Candi!

    Hi Ms. Vaesen,
I am really miss our music lesson !And I was excited to learn how to play the ukulele…

    1. The best thing I did in my spring break is that I went to the beach with my family and it was a sunny day. We
enjoyed ourselves on the beach and we were lucky that we went out because a few days after that started the coronavirus social restrictions and recommendations to stay home.

    2. My favorite song is blueberry faygo by Lil mosey.

    3. I am wondering about when coronavirus will be gone and we go back to school and to the normal life.

      Hi Lily,

Thank-you for your reply! I loved sleeping in during the Spring Break too 🙂 I didn’t know you liked K-Pop music. Did you know that I have a friend who did some of the choreography for BTS? That means he made up their cool dance moves. I hope you are staying home and staying safe!

  • Ava Montagano

    Hi Miss Vaesen,
I miss you so much. Thanks for the song you posted. I just had a dance party in the kitchen! To answer your questions, the best thing about my spring break was dancing to lots of songs on my new speaker system. My favourite song right now is A Man Gotta Do by the Jonas Brothers. I am wondering when we get to go back to school.
Take good care and enjoy your time with your family.
    Love Ava and Mom

    • Miss Vaesen

      Hi Ava (and mom),

I am so happy to hear from you 🙂 I miss teaching you too! I am glad we are all listening to the experts advice and staying home, washing our hands and keeping our distance for now. You are so lucky that you have a new speaker system. That will be perfect for listening to good music like the Jonas Brothers! I don’t have any speakers here at home with my family but I do have one very out of tune piano 😉 Thank-you for your message, Ava. I hope you will
keep checking my music website for other fun things to do!
      Love,
      Miss Vaesen
