My Thoughts on the 10-20 Minutes of Quiet Time

Kelly Grade 7

Quiet time is a time to relax, to empty your mind of all things negative, a time just for you and yourself only, no one else, not even your teachers :). Don’t let anyone into your personal bubble during the 10-20 minutes of just you.

During Quiet Time all I really do is work on my homework, take short naps, or doodle on the closest things near me, like binders or my hands.I enjoy Quiet time, but it really does suck when you can’t exactly talk to your friends, but its still a great way to relax, catch up on assignments, and have some time for yourself and only you, though I wish instead of having to sit in our hard, uncomfortable chairs we couch lay down on couches, but obviously, not many schools really have the money for 31 couches. Usually during Quiet Time I feel tired from all the stress working on assignments, plus other out of school activities at the same time, other days I feel bored, active, and sometimes even gloomy. I noticed how hard it is not to be able to talk to friends even if it’s the tiniest little thing, but overall I still find a way to communicate with nearby close friends, like passing notes (SORRY!!), but I guess you also start being thankful for the extra free time you have.

On occasions Quiet Time is nothing but school time being wasted, but on other days I thank the Gods for the extra free time to do anything I chose to do (quietly). It is time I use to calm myself down, relax, loosen up, and even catch up on work. I was quite surprised when teachers would actually let their students do whatever they chose to do (quietly) for 10-20 minutes, even to play internet games on computers and iPads! Have our classroom teachers lost their minds!?!?!?!?! IT’S MADNESS!!! IT’S SANITY! IT’S CRAZY! IT’S TRULY UNTHINKABLE!!!!!

I have a few question which are…

Where in the world did we ever get the idea for “Quiet Time”?

Where did the idea of “Quiet Time” come from??

Don’t most people technically already have “Quiet Time” in their lives? So why do we need to be wasting precious learning time at school??

I usually draw and I don’t like how we have to stay in our personal bubble but I do like how we can do anythings that quiet. I feel really peaceful and it helps me stop worrying about stuff. I notice that after people are really sleepy and saggy from how relaxing it is! When I here that its quiet time I feel happy and more relaxed that we can just sit there and do whatever we want that is quiet. I was surprised that I actually liked it because usually I would rather be talking and playing loudly but I never thought I would like it cause it helps me relax! Can we be able to like whisper to people because sometimes its fun to have like drawing contests with your friends.
