Assignment Details for Chick Journal Entry for Days 1-9

Our chick eggs are continuing to develop and grow, and we are on day 9 of our egg development calendar! There have been many changes inside the egg. The chick that is growing inside the egg is called an embryo (please see the picture below about the embryo).

Task/Assignment: Once you have read the changes that are happening inside the egg, you are to choose one day of development and write a journal entry from the perspective of the embryo. Think about the following things: What do you think it’s like living inside and egg? What do you think you can hear, see and feel? This is very similar to the writing that we did in 1st term, where we wrote a diary entry from the perspective of a crayon when we read The Day the Crayons Came Home written by Drew Daywalt.

Criteria:

· Start with Dear Diary or Dear Journal,

· Make sure that you write about the changes that are happening to your embryo

· Do you have a catchy beginning and interesting ending?

· Are there details and description?

· Show don’t tell!

· Use triple scooped words

· Entry should be 8-12 long.

**Due: April 17th Friday Evening (Please submit via Fresh Grade)

Please see the following Journal Entry Sample Written by and Embryo for Day 3.

Dear Diary,

Can I let you in on a secret? Don’t tell anyone what I’m about to tell you…I am a CHICKEN! No, I don’t mean chicken, like a bird, I mean C-H-I-C-K-E-N!!! Still don’t get it? Here’s a clue: “Cluck, Cluck Cluck” No, I am not clucking right now!!! Ughh! CHICKEN, like a scaredy cat!

Oh No! I don’t want to think about cats right now! Anyways, what I mean is that I’m scared! Terrified! Anyone in my situation would be a chicken! It’s dark inside here! I’m all alone, well inside my egg I am (I know there’s twelve other embryos next to me). I mean who isn’t scared of the dark? To make matters worse, I’ve been hearing loud noises! I’m not imagining things! I’m also not making it up! It’s a LOUD, BEATING noise, that’s coming inside the egg, it’s like a drum, going “thump, thump, thump”. As each hour passes it gets louder! Please help me! You got to get me out of here!!

Please note that the following pictures were from a unit purchased on Teachers Pay Teachers and created and copyright by Teacher’s Breathing Space. Please do not forward or use the pictures for any other purposes other than to share with your child the stages of the developing egg. Thank you!
