To celebrate year of the tiger we participated in a directed drawing activity with Ms. Khouri.

Blob Art

Ms. Manky came up with this fun art activity where the kids needed to use teamwork to create a blob monster. Here are the steps we followed:

  1. Paint a blob using water colours.
  2. Dance around the room to GoNoodle to wait for the blobs to dry.
  3. Once the blobs were dry we grabbed a marker, only 1 marker.
  4. Next we passed our pictures to the person sitting beside us and they had 20 seconds to draw a small detail to our blob.
  5. Then we passed the pictures again in the same direction for the next friend to add some small detail to our pictures.
  6. After we passed our blobs around the table a couple of times we then got to name our blobs.

This activity was different because we normally do not draw on someone’s picture. We had to be ok with many things during this activity: not being in control of the process, how to respect others art, and how to be ok with something not turning out the way we planned. We hope you enjoy our blob monsters!

Magnet Art

To continue our conversation around motion, specifically with the idea of “pushing” and “pulling”, we had lots of fun mixing primary colours together to make secondary colours using magnets. 1 large magnet under the paper and a small magnet on top of the paper. As the kids moved the magnets around using pushing and pulling motions, they were able to mix the paint colours together to make these wonderful masterpieces!

Outside Ramps

As we have been talking a lot about force and motion in the classroom, Div. 12 and Div. 13 explored some materials outside. We brought out some race cars, Keva blocks, and some ramps and balls to do some investigating.

I wonder what the kiddos found out, or what new questions might they have?

Guest Reader

Last week for literacy week, we were lucky to have Mr. Hiltz come in to be our guest reader. He chose to read us the story called Red A Crayon’s Story by Michael Hall.

Introduction to Motion

Today we began our investigation of motion using ramps. Some vocabulary we will hopefully know by the end of our inquiry: motion, gravity, force, ramps, machines.

Some questions that may guide us with our investigations (these will most likely change over time as the kids begin to ask their own questions):

  • How can you make objects move?
  • How does the shape or size of an object affect the object’s movement?
  • How does the material the object is made of affect the object’s movement?

I am excited to see where our learning takes us!
