Experimenting with Shadows

We have been talking about patterns we see in the sky. One morning on a sunny day, we decided as a class we should enjoy the beautiful sunshine. We started by tracing our shadows with a partner, then went on with our day and after lunch time we asked ourselves if our shadows would be in the same spot. What do you think we discovered?

Flexibility

Yesterday we learned the importance of being flexible with our daily schedule! We were getting new furniture delivered and assembled but we were unsure of the time. So, we had a fun morning on yoga mats, ate our snacks in the community room and went outside to listen to a story. We were also very excited when the new tables and play arch were ready for us to use in the afternoon!

Outdoor Challenge Week

Monday: We made patterns outside in the forest!

Tuesday: We went outside with Ms. Willis (our Indigenous Support worker). We found leaves to make leaf rubbings, unfortunately, we did not have smooth surfaces and the rubbings did not turn out. But we had lots of fun playing in the leaves!

Later that same day, we went outside for forest explorations. Lots of us ran around using our imagination, some of us worked on our balance as we stood on some wood teetering and walking across fallen trees. Some of us continued to build a fort we had found from the older kids.

Wednesday: We went outside to play in the mud kitchen. We had lots of fun using measuring cups, pots and pans, and baking trays. Our menu had many yummy things on it like, soups, stews, cookies, and much much more.

Thursday: On this day we went outside with Mrs. Taylor-Gibbs class to explore numbers. We matched and counted chestnuts using ten frames (as seen in the pictures below, sorry I do not have pictures of the other 2 stations). We practiced counting by 5’s using chestnut bracelets, and we made leaf kabab patterns.

Leaf Man

We read the story Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert, and went outside to create our very own leaf creatures. Can you guess what they are?
Sorry the picture had to be sideways or it would not fit in the post.

Term 1 Overview

Hello Families,

I have decided to post our overviews on the class blog early in the terms to allow families to see what we will be learning. I really try to allow the students to guide the learning, therefore, some of these plans may change. Please keep in mind this is an overview and does not dive into a lot of details on all content areas.

I believe blogfolios are a great way to show the learning through out the year. Please make sure to look at the blogfolios with your children. Both the class bog and blogfolios are great ways to start many discussions at home about what we are doing at school.

The Dot

September 15 was International Dot Day! We listened to the story “The Dot” by Peter H. Reynolds, and created our very own unique dots. This was a great way to encourage the kiddos to be
confident in their own work. Art can look different for everyone!
We want to encourage creativity in our classroom!

Plant Flowers

The flower seed balls went home with the kids on the last day of school. The kids can throw their seed ball in the forest to grow next spring. The clay will protect the seed until then!
Happy growing!

PS: do not put in your home garden as one of the seeds are wild roses.
