Caterpillars!!

We received 30 caterpillars (larvae) in our kit.  These were all placed into their own containers with a food supply.

Then one caterpillar turned into its chrysalis and was put into the flight cage …

And then there were five …

And now, today, there are 25 in chrysalids!!!!!

24 of them successfully attached to their lids and are just ‘hanging around’, one is fully formed and sitting in the bottom of its cup on the floor of the flight cage.

We will wait and see what happens with this little fellow.

We now have 5 who are still in the caterpillar form.

Stay tuned for our next update …

The Larva Have Arrived!!

They arrived in one container with enough food to keep them going until we got them.

Each student had the opportunity to place one caterpillar into its own container.  These containers were first lined with their own food supply and will allow the larva their own space for growth.  Students used the paint brushes to move the larva in order to keep the larva clean and safely moved.

Most of the individual containers were placed into a secure larger container.  As we received so many larva (30), some will be staying in the white basket.

We will be watching their growth closely. Students are quite enamoured by the caterpillars 💕

We will be keeping you posted.
