Extra Curriculum Activity
Cooking and baking is today’s extra curriculum activity. Cooking and baking allows you to continue your science skills of following instructions, safety around equipment, and measuring. Some cooking doesn’t require exact measurements, but some baking does. If you don’t get the exact ratio of flour to yeast to salt to water correct you won’t make bread, you’ll make an inedible mixture. Some foods, like a spaghetti sauce, don’t require exact proportions, but you still need to be safe around the equipment, such as never leaving a pot to boil dry, or letting the liquid boil over and scalding the cook. Under cooked food can cause health issues so follow the timing instructions on a recipe carefully.

And of course, cooking and baking is a skill that you will need for the rest of your life. In this new age of social isolation we need to be a bit more self sufficient, and to be more self sufficient, we need to be able to feed ourselves. Moreover, if the person in your house who does most of the cooking becomes sick, they won’t be able to continue. They would appreciate food being cooked for them as they recover from their illness.
