Blog – Guidelines

Why a blog?
– Our blog is to be a safe place for students to post stories, poems and opinions, conduct surveys, read others’ ideas, and comment on others’ posts and comments.
– Our blog is accessible to the public. Anyone can visit and look at what is posted here. Learn and follow guidelines for safe social media use. Show your best work and skills.
– Our blog supports goals in applied skills and technology, reading, writing and other subjects and competencies.

Blog roles
Students can be subscribers (read only), contributors (teacher approves posts and comments), or authors (can post directly to the blog). The teacher has administrator level and has control over the entire blog. Students who use the blog responsibly will be given author status.

Guidelines/Rules for Blog Use
– Do not share or change your password.
– Follow usual guidelines for internet use. Be careful with personal information.
– Post on your own personal blog space, not on the Division 7 Home page.
– No private or password protected posts.
– Think before you post. Could your words or pictures offend someone or cause unnecessary discomfort? If you are not sure, don’t post it. Ask for advice if needed.

Participation Criteria / Assessment
– Users are expected to post and respond thoughtfully and respectfully.
– Showcase your own writing or other creative skills. Do not copy and paste text.
– Posts and comments must have a strong written part. This is not chatting or texting. Use proper writing conventions (spelling, punctuation, grammar, sentence structures). Edit and proofread your work before posting.
– Avoid long posts that take a long time to read. Stay on topic and get to the point.
– Include useful and appropriate pictures, charts or other visuals to support your written ideas.
– Make thoughtful comments to others’ posts and comments. Expand on their ideas. Include details, opinions, explanations and questions.
