Hello Div. 3 Families!

We’re ready for the next stage of our mask making!! Tomorrow we will begin to paper mache our masks. That means we will need newspaper for making strips. If you could send any extra newspaper to school tomorrow, that would be great. Also helpful, would be plastic containers with lids (for wet paper mache storage). If you have any larger containers that can be loaned for your child’s use at school, that would be helpful.

Paper mache can be very messy and requires great patience. Students should come to school with a smock or large button-up shirt (think ratty old plaid) that can be used like a paint smock.

We’ve been invited to participate in a show at the Children’s Festival! YAY!

We are scheduled to go June 3rd in the morning. We may make this a full day field trip (not sure) – details to come!

I will need 1-2 parent volunteers. Please contact me by email to let me know if you are available for a half or full day.

I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend and were able to enjoy the weather and spend time with family! Last week was busy with Student Leds. With no school again next Monday, April shapes up to be a very busy month indeed!

Please revisit homework expectations with your child.

Students should be writing homework in their planner EVERY day, with a minimum of 20 min of home reading every night. You can expect another 10 min/day of other work such as Lit Circle work (reading, questions, connection and vocab), Science (reading, questions), Spelling packages and weekly quiz, What in the World – non-fiction reading and questions.

If students are organized and working a little bit each day, this work load is very doable. If they are waiting to do this work until the night before it is due, they will struggle. Organization is the key here.  Students who are efficient with their time at school are even better off.  If you are unsure about homework, please check the student planner, TEAMS, or simply ask me (email works best).

• April 15/17 – Good Friday/Easter Monday – no school
• April 22 – Earth Day. Wear green and blue. Intermediate assembly in the gym (a.m.).

Student Led Conferences are being held next Wednesday, after students are dismissed early at 2pm. Please keep an eye out for the pink or green notice that went home last Friday. I need these filled out and returned ASAP (by tomorrow/Tue).

In preparation our upcoming Student Leds, please make sure you know how to log into your child’s blogfolio using your unique sign-in (your email address) and password. If you forget how to do this, your child should be able to show you. If you have forgotten your password, please navigate through “forgot password” from the sign-in.

• Thursday will also be early dismissal – 2pm.
• Good Friday is Friday, April 15 (no school)
• Easter Monday is Monday, April 18 (no school)

Dear families:

In January, Div. 3 finished reading Pax, by Sara Pennypacker. I borrowed books from across the district so that students could follow along during our read aloud. I thought that I had returned all books to their rightful owners (other elementary and secondary Burnaby school libraries), but it seems we are missing two books. They come from South Burnaby secondary school (should have that labelled somewhere on the book).

Could you please take a look at home to see if your child has left it somewhere by accident. I am responsible for the replacement of these two books. I know that some students borrowed/brought home a copy so that they could finish their blog writing assignments. I would greatly appreciate it you could check in with your child and take a look around. Thank you!!

Dear families:

I would like to take Division 3 to the Central Park more often, however, for safety reasons we need to have at least two adults for our number of children. I am seeking parents or guardians who would like to join us occasionally Friday afternoons at Central Park.  If you are interested in joining us, please contact me directly (email or phone) so we can discuss the ways you can support us.

We’re hoping to make it to Central Park this Friday. Please contact me as soon as you can regarding our potential Forest Friday this Friday, March 11 (from 12:30pm to 2:30pm).

Reminder to families:

Tomorrow (Friday), Maywood classes will be having their class photo taken.

If it’s a nice day, we’re hoping to have it taken outside.

Hi friends and families of Div. 3:

I just wanted to remind you that I am keeping homework up-to-date in Teams. We have a Science and Social Studies channel for students to check, as well as our general homework channel. Students are reminded to check with Teams when unsure about homework. I have set up a separate Team for my math group; students are responsible for knowing their Math teacher’s process of sharing homework (not all Math teachers have created their own Math group Team).

I’m noticing more students are forgetting about homework. I encourage parents to check in with their child to make sure they are completing their homework. It should be written in their planner; as well, can be found in Teams.
