A special thank you to Ms. Lui of Capital Hill Elementary for putting together the first of these two videos, a virtual choir-style video from a collection of video recordings from Burnaby music teachers. And a special thank you to Ms. Nordstrand from Inman Elementary for putting together the second video with messages from Burnaby music teachers.

Music Monday song – “Hymn To Freedom”
Many of you will remember singing the Oscar Peterson song “Hymn To Freedom” for Music Monday last year. The same song has been selected for Music Monday this year, which takes place on May 4th. Information on the event can be found at the link below.
Can you sing the song at home, and submit a recording of yourself singing? I’ve included a Youtube link at the bottom of this post for a choir singing the song (they sing it bilingually in French and English, but the English lyrics are subtitled all the way through if you want to sing along in English). I’ve also included a link for lyrics and a piano accompaniment track that you can use to practice singing solo and for your recording.

7pm cheer
Every evening at 7 we cheer for the healthcare workers helping Covid-19 patients. In my neighbourhood many of us do it on our balconies using musical instruments that we have at home. Question: how many instruments can you see and hear in this video of us cheering yesterday?
Many people are encouraged to bang pots and pans together during the cheer, but instruments are great to use at this time as well. Do you have an instrument at home that you can sound during the cheer? Can you tell me about it, or send a video yourself of you playing your instrument during the cheer?
