Thank you to all the students who took a chance & created questions to our 1st Think Math answer last week:
The answer is the sum of 12 African Elephants.
11 African Elephants were drinking water. An African Elephant with a bird on it came for a drink. How many African Elephants are there in all? ~ Yi
9 elephants are drinking water. 3 joined them. How many in all? ~ Shelley
10 African Elephants were drinking water. Then 2 more came. How many in all? ~ Michael
9 African Elephants were drinking at the waterhole then 3 more elephants came. ~ Jishith
11 African Elephants were decorating a Christmas Tree. 1 more joined. How many in all? ~ Ira
2 elephants are drinking at the water hole. Then 10 decide to join. ~ Emily
10 African Elephants are walking down the street, then 2 more joined in. How many elephants are there now? ~ Anna
3 African Elephants are drinking water. 9 come & join. How many in all? ~ Amber
2 elephants are inside the classroom. The teacher opens the door & 10 elephants run in. How many in all? ~ Benjamin

Your challenge is to correctly write a number story / question that matches the answer on a sticky note & place it on your class number.
There are as many different correct answers as there are students in our class!

Pumpkin Patch!

Pumpkin Patch Time! Nelson students split into their family groups on Wednesday afternoon & participated in activities with their family group teacher & then went outside to pick a pumpkin & enjoy some delicious hot chocolate with marshmallows provided by our wonderful PAC parents ~ Thank You!!!

Cross Country Intramurals 2014

Nelson students in grades 3, 4, 5, 6, & 7 participated in our annual Cross Country competition on Friday afternoon. Division 8 had lots of fun racing for the 1st time against other grade 3s & all did an awesome job! Click on the runner below to see everyone fly!

Flat Stanley Project

We are currently learning about continents & other map skills in class. Among them, we are learning how to locate our province, our country & other countries on maps & globes. The character Flat Stanley has inspired our current project. Click on the picture above to learn more!
Division 8 students have created their very own Flat Stanleys that are ready for adventure! There are a couple different ways they can travel…

Take Flat Stanley on Your Family Vacation
Take pictures of your family with your Flat Stanley at landmarks & recognizable locations during your travels & if you are able to purchase a postcard &/or small souvenir it is definitely welcome! When you return email the photos to Miss Watt @ stephanie.watt@sd41.bc.ca & she’ll share them with the class!

Mail Flat Stanley Around the World
Your Flat Stanley can be sent to a friend or relative that lives in another province, or one that lives in another country! We can mail our Flat Stanleys from school, so if you provide the name and address, Miss Watt will take care of the postage. Division 8 has a letter that is sent along to explain the activity to friends or family members & one for them to return to our class. The recipient will be asked to return the traveller after a week or so with pictures of the Flat Stanley somewhere in their area and a postcard or artifact/souvenir if they are able. They may also email me the photos @ stephanie.watt@sd41.bc.ca.

When the Flat Stanleys return to school, we will plot their whereabouts on our map & share the information received with each other.
Our Flat Stanley project will continue throughout the year & we are all very excited about what we’ll learn about our world. Our own travels; letters, pictures & artifacts from our friends & family; & lastly through the research we do in the classroom, we will learn about the different places our Flat Selves travel to.
