May the 4th Be With You
Hello Incredible Music Students,
Did you know that today, is a very special day for TWO reasons?
Today, all across Canada, is an important day called Music Monday. Music Monday happens every year on the first Monday of May. It is a time where music students all across Canada learn the same song. This year the song is called Hymn to Freedom (click to hear the song). Can you learn the tune and sing along? Here is the Hymn to Freedom Sheet Music if you would like to play along too! I would love for you to record yourself singing or playing the song and send it to my email: liz.vaesen@burnabyschools.ca
The second reason today is a special day is because it is May the 4th! Many people celebrate the movie Star Wars today. People like to say “May the 4th be with you!” instead of “May the force be with you” 😉 . John Williams is the composer of the original Star Wars music.
In the video below, John Williams is a special guest conducting his very own music with the Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra!
Now it’s time for YOU to become a composer. I would like you to use Chrome Music Lab to create your own song. Click on the link here to see a Star Wars example! Then change it to make your own song. Once finished, click Save. On the next screen click Copy Link. Then send the link to: liz.vaesen@burnabyschools.ca
Have fun!

Hi Alex,
Your song is very complex! I listened to it a variety of ways and I like the piano and kit the best. I love the syncopation in the rhythm. Well done, Alex!

Hi Luke,
I’ve just checked the link on this blogpost and everything seems to be working fine. Maybe try again and let me know if you have any trouble!

Still doesn’t work.
Miss Vaesen
Hi Luke,
I have checked everything out again (and had some other people check too) and the link above works fine. Perhaps a setting on your computer is blocking the website? You can also google search ‘Chrome Music Lab’ and click on ‘Songmaker’ and then create your song.
I hope this helps you! If not, please email me at liz.vaesen@burnabyschools.ca.
