May 4-8 Daily Activities

Good Afternoon Division 11! Here is this week’s plan!

I know I am posting a little early.  I am moving today and I am not sure what time I will get internet tomorrow. I will still have access to my email over my phone but will not have access to the blog or FreshGrade until I get wifi.

Thank you for being so flexible and will be back on wifi as soon as I can to see your hard work and creativity!

Below is our weekly plan: (Save as an image to see it larger)

Monday May 4

  1. SEL Calendar

Please complete the May 1 activity as we are starting today. Post a picture to FreshGrade.

  1. Science: Life Cycle of a Butterfly

Last term we looked at the life cycle of a salmon. This term we would have raised butterflies in the primary wing of the school but as circumstances have changed we will participate in one last week of looking at lifecycles of animals/insects. Watch the video on the lifecycle of a butterfly. This term we are focusing on the competency of creative thinking.

Using the 4 stages of a butterfly create a way to demonstrate your understanding of the butterfly lifecycle.  For example, drawing, using materials to create art, acting out the cycle or using loose parts to create the stages (examples below)…

Post a picture of what you created to FreshGrade.

4 basic stages

    • larva – the caterpillar
    • egg
    • butterfly
    • chrysalis – pupa
  1. Mathematics: Measurement

*Use the same measurement that you did of your height last week for part 1

Part 1: Arm span and height

  • Compare your arm span and your height
  • What do you notice?
  • What relationship exists?
  • Now measure one of your family member’s arm span
  • What do you predict will be true about family member’s height?
  • Try it!

Part 2: Hat Size and Arm Span

  • Get a piece of string
  • Cut a piece that is the same length as your arm span
  • Use that string to measure around your head
  • What do you notice?
