Good afternoon families,

Just wanted to update you that our Photo Re-takes are tomorrow now at 1pm. Thank you to the families who have emailed me so I know your child will be taking their photo.

School Wide Write:

Attached is the form I will be sending out tomorrow. Please have a chat with your child about what item (fruit, vegetable or flower) they would like to bring for their write. Please bring it in on Monday November 2nd or the latest on Tuesday November 3rd in the morning.

Note: Parents if you are interested in volunteering to help cut up the fruits and veggies to share please email me.

Here is the updated information regarding the up coming week.

Monday October 26: **New Scholastic Order Date

Our Scholastic Class Code is: RC130056. There are many books to purchase for your home to continue developing a love for reading or to begin building reading into your daily routine as a family. As I have only one order right now, I will put the order in Monday October 26 at 3pm.

Tuesday October 27: Pumpkin Patch

Time to be announced. Please have your child bring a bag with their division and name on it for Tuesday October 27th. Our time for hot chocolate will be at 1:15pm and visiting the pumpkin patch at 1:30pm.

Wednesday October 28: Picture Re-Take Day

A reminder to please email me if your child is taking a picture re-take. If your child was away on picture day I will send your child down when it is our turn. Picture re-takes will take place in the school gym starting at 9am.

Friday October 30: Halloween Celebration and more information!

Carved Pumpkin Display:

If your child would like to put their pumpkin on display in the gym for the parade please write your child’s name and division 11 on the back of your pumpkin. Pumpkins will be brought down to the gym just after the first bell to start getting them ready and on display in the morning.

Halloween Parade:

The halloween parade will take place this year at 9:30am. We will have an area for parents in the gym to enjoy the parade as classes walk through. This annual event will occur rain or shine.

In class celebration: 

Throughout the day we will celebrate with Halloween themed activities and a short film in the afternoon. If you would like to bring a treat or goody bag to share with the class, it is absolutely optional. If you decide to bring something to share please ensure there is enough for all 18 students in our class.

Please ensure all items are individually wrapped (peanut, all tree nuts and gelatin free) as we do have students with allergies and sensitivities to those foods mentioned above in our class and we would like to make sure all students are included.

Ms. Kashima has put every student a Suncrest into teams this year. Each family is also on the same team.

Halloween

Stay tuned for more details on the time of our Halloween Parade. Hoping I will get more information at tomorrow’s staff meeting.

Words Their Way Spelling:

This week we began our phonic spelling program called “Words their way.” We have students working in various groups focusing on initial letter sounds, letter blends (digraphs), vowels, vowel blends (dipthongs).  Each week your child will bring home an envelop of cards to practice. They are yours to keep after we spend the week focusing on certain cards. Words their way is a great program that supports students phonemic awareness for writing and spelling. A notice will be coming home Thursday that shares many ways to engage in the program.

Our classroom blog is officially up and running! This is where I’ll share updates and additional information to expand on the brief planner messages your child brings home each day. My goal is to keep you informed about what is happening in our classroom and around the school. Below are some October Updates.

Updated October Calendar:

Welcome Conversations:

Thank you all for taking the time to meet with me the past two afternoons/ evenings. I learned so much about your child and I am looking forward to working as a team to support your child and their learning this school year.

Division 11 Class Charter:

Attached is our Class Charter for you to see how we work together to make our community a safe, friendly and inclusive place for everyone.

Library:

Library will be every Tuesday morning. As talked about in many of our conversations, I am encouraging students in Division 11 to select 2 books your child can read/ around their reading level and 1 book a family member can read to them. Ms. Ho also has open book exchange every Friday afternoon and alternating Mondays if you miss Tuesday’s Class Book Exchange.

Outdoor Classroom:

Division 11 will be exploring and making connections to our curriculum outside. Every Thursday please ensure your child is prepared to go outdoors rain or shine. When it begins to rain I recommend rain gear such as boots, waterproof pants, water proof jacket and always having extra socks on hand!

Inside Shoes:

As the weather is starting to change each student in Division 11 will need indoor shoes. It is not only a way to keep our feet dry after going outside but it also keeps our classroom, hallways, Music room, Library, gym and carpet clean to sit on throughout the day. Please ensure inside shoes are a pair of running shoes for activities, movement and gym. Let’s all work together to keep our classroom and community clean.

Fun Lunch:

If you order fun lunch please remember to pack a small snack for snack time.

We are already at the last two weeks of school! Today in your child’s planner was a reminder of all the dates. Here are some reminders listed below (also on the notice sent home).

Year End Assembly (9:15am in the gym)

Suncrest Water Park Afternoon (Tuesday June 16) 1:00-2:45pm

Please have your child bring:

• towel
• water bottle
• afternoon snack
• water shoes/ sandals (to wear in the water)
• sun hat/ ball cap or sunscreen

If your child would like to go in the water please ensure they come to school wearing their swimsuit as we do not have a change room. Students will dry off and go home in their swimsuits as well.

**Please refrain from bringing water guns as we are expected to follow Suncrest Safety Guidelines even at the park and off site.

Annual Central Park Walking Field Trip and Picnic (Tuesday June 23):

It’s that time of year again! All permission forms are in! We are so excited for this annual event.  Any parent is welcome to join us for the full day, part of the day or even just for lunch. Come and join us for this end of the school year celebration. We will be located at Picnic Site #2 next to the playground. Best entrance to park is off Kingsway by the playground and Swangard Stadium.

Please have your child bring in their backpack: 

• water bottle
• lunch (litter less)
• snack
• Towel
• Sandals or water shoes
• Wear a hat and sunscreen
• Wear closed toed shoes (runners for walking)

**Please refrain from bringing water guns as we are expected to follow Suncrest Safety Guidelines even at the park and off site.

Classroom Clean Up:

Monday June 22: Portfolios Home (students will need help)

Wednesday June 24: Indoor shoes and extra clothes home)

Last Day of School (June 25):

School will be one hour (dismissal at 10am) and students will receive their report card online.

Where has the school year gone? I cannot believe these are the last few weeks of the 2025/26 school year. Below is some information and days to note as the year comes to a close. Thank you all for such a great school year, its been one of the most successful years in Division 11!

June Calendar:

On Thursday May 28 there is an Assembly at 10:40am in the gym. Division 11 is performing 3 songs along with the other primary classes. If you can join us we would love to see you there!

Friday May 29: Sports Day (wear your house team colour). Events begin at 9:10am and the day ends at 12:30pm (early dismissal).

Good afternoon families!

A huge thank you again to our Science World Field Trip Volunteers! It was a blast and went so smoothy because of your help and support! We really appreciate you!!!

Attached is our draft May Calendar. Also posted in the classroom window. It is a draft as during the end of the school year many activities pop into our schedule.

Student Led Conferences:

A reminder that our conferences are on Thursday May 7 between 2:15-6pm. We will have an early dismissal at 2pm. We are excited to show you our on going portfolio and some work we have been diving into this 3rd term so far. You will see some finished work and work that is still in progress.

Planner Cover Contest:

Next years Planner Cover Contest is due this Friday May 8. Notices were handed on a few weeks ago. This is an activity done outside of school for those interested. Expectations are listed on the notice. Excited to see all the covers!

Burnaby Village Museum Classroom Visit:

Thank you to everyone for getting payments into Ms. Boleak on time using school cash. We will be in the Library right after the first bell as our session begins at 8:55am. If you are late to school on Wednesday May 13 please sign in with Ms. Boleak and join us in the Library right away.
