We love these books so much, that we read them over and over again!
We are learning about ways we and other people feel to help us understand ourselves and others and make good decisions.
We truly enjoy reading books from the Behaviour Matters series: “The Monkey Needs to Listen”, “Giraffe is Left Out”, “Elephant Learns to Share”, “Lion’s in a Flap”. These books allowed us to make lots of connections to our own experiences and discuss pros and cons of certain behaviours.
This is an amazing book about becoming friends without words… You just need to see the world the same way. Dennis does not speak a word. He only mimes. He can’t even participate in the “Show-and-Tell” in class. Kids do not understand him and he feels lonely. Until one girl, Joy, catches the imaginary ball he throws and the wall between them disappears…
What we saw on the book cover:
“The boy is acting”, “The boy is using his IMAGINATION”, “He is a mime boy” “-The flower is not real, it is imaginary.
-But why is the girl reaching out for it if it is imaginary? Does she see it?”
Some of our kids’ comments:
“You can make friends and imagine stuff, and you don’t feel lonely anymore.”
“This books is teaching us to be kind.”
“I liked when Joy caught the ball.”
