10 Blogging Tips
- Keep it short! You want people to read the whole thing.
- Write like you talk! The more approachable your writing is, the more people will enjoy it.
- Show your personality! Some people like to crack jokes, some like to make pop culture references, and others have a way with vivid descriptions.
- Write on a narrow topic! Do not make your topic too broad because it will need too much information.
- Use data as evidence! When you are making an argument and claims, root it in data and research.
- Do not plagiarize! Do not think you can get away with copy-and-paste.
- Learn how to cite others! It’s essential to recognize your source of information.
- Don’t think you’re done once your writing is done! Most times our first drafts aren’t that good. It still needs editing, and maybe a lot of it.
- Take 5 minutes to edit your piece! Everyone needs to edit their writing, even the most experienced writers.
- Don’t try to make your post perfect! There will always be more things you can do to make your posts better. More images. Better phrasing. Wittier jokes. The best writers I know, know when to stop obsessing and just hit “publish.”
